Logic 9 it is!

Posted by tehlord on Jul-16-2013 15:10:

I'm so glad I bought Logic 9 last week and don't get an upgrade path.

I can't afford X right now so I'm entitled to just warez it right? I mean the amount of money I've spent on gear entitles me to doesn't it?

In any case, I really don't see much reason for me to upgrade at this point and I've never been a fan of early adoption.

The only interesting thing is the iPad control. And I don't have an iPad

I bought Logic 9 a few months ago, so I'm not happy about the lack of upgrade price, either. And I already use V-Control Pro, but I'm interested to see this new iPad controller. I like the new design and most of the improvements will be nice. I'll probably be upgrading, but just gotta make sure that I will still be able to run the plugins that I have installed on my MBA.

64bit only is kind of a ballsy move

Posted by farris on Jul-16-2013 16:21:

As expected, looks like FCPX (and some elements from Garageband).
Some instruments/plugins still have the same dated look, not quite sure if that was a good choice by Apple.
The ugly stick...compared to the rest of the user interface, but it ensures they won't upset the old userbase.

Would've loved to see something like ES2 sport an interface like the one from the new Retro Synth.
ES2 (and ES1) has a fiddly and chaotic interface IMO, not to mention the small type.
I know you can resize the native Logic plugins, but Retro Synth's interface looks more inviting.

BTW...single-window interface, because we all have a 27" ACD or iMac right? RIGHT?!

Eager to try it out though!

100$ says it still suffers from the single core bug.

Posted by Rebel Brown on Jul-16-2013 16:54:

So the 'Requires 64-bit Audio Units plug-ins' means none of my 32-bit plugins will work? Well that's pants.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jul-16-2013 16:57:

there are 3rd party solutions.

To be honest, i think all DAWs should just do it and force them to just fucking finish the decade long change. I mean they ahve been selling 64 bit hardware for fucking ions. Just end 32 support. Every daw maker should just stop it.

not having 64 bit versions of you plugins is just a joke.

i guess no sylenth in logic x then? pretty lame.

It will be the end of EDM as we know it.

I'm guessing that Logic X will cause all the Mac users to storm the Lennard castle and you'll see 64-bit in no time. As for being "pretty lame", you should direct that comment toward these lazy developers who refuse to keep up with technology (i.e., see L4C's comment above).

kinda feel for the late adopters through mac app store, sure, but honestly, 200$ was the price of logic express 9, and is less than the upgrade path from ableton live 8 suite to 9 suite, which was for me a complete joke. I can see those berliners already pushing with live X for an adobe CC-like price policy. At least with logic, things are very clear and the same for everyone, you pay, you download, you start using what you're paying for. No upgrade paths, no silly policies, no games. Just music.

I think I'll do the jump very soon.

I used to pay 1000$ for my logic pro pack so at 200 bucks, I think there's lots of great stuff in there. Steinberg demands 700 for a version of Cubase with the same features, if not less.

Now the suspense goes round mainstage 3... will its playback plug feature real-time stretching? might do! If so then... goodbye ableton live for me and forever.

i agree, Lennard should get his shit together or drop the product, especially since he's in essence charging over $200 for legacy software

MacProVideo already has a video series showing off the new features in Logic X. Gotta say, I'm loving the new features. Track stacks are pretty cool. Moving tracks around now works the way you'd expect, including moving non-contiguous tracks around. The MIDI effects seem very cool, especially the arp, modulator, and randomizer.

edit: damn, the new Retro synth looks very cool, too. It's actually four different synths in one (analog, sync, wavetable, & FM). The new electric piano also seems nice.

jbridge

i think jbridge would be your best bet for insert fx. There are also some more elaborate workarounds using jack audio but they are a little overkill for just 1 plugin

What annoys me is the mountain lion requirement. 10.7 is still iffy and I have a feeling there are some core issues that are still there. And if that is the case. Good bye mac. That multi core issue is really deep in the code and unless they built it from the ground up, it is probably still there.

Will probably just wait for a crack and test it on a 10.8 system. Its just one of those things that if they didn't fix, i mean that was a huge fucking issue that could make your 12 core 6000 mac pro spike with one channel being selected while all other cores are doing nothing.

maschine? Nomad factory magma hosts vsts inside logic too. That should solve the issue... partially. Now on a single core that's going to be very hard for some with an older mac. Glad I got myself a quad even though the logic board needs a replacement.

i see everyone talking about jBridgeM w maschine.. what do you need a maschine for? isn't that what jBridge is for?

Really it's this for me. If i can audition sounds in time, I think this is as close to leaving ableton as I've ever been. That said, I use "extract groove" and the new audio to melody things A LOT. I could still use them but I'd like to get back to logic now that they've caught up with everyone else

As for the no upgrade price, $200 is an upgrade price as far as I'm concerned.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jul-16-2013 22:07:

the maker of sylenth is probably dead from an overdose or in the bahamas. I really doubt it will ever see a 64 bit version.
