New track, comment please... I'm going nuts!

Hi guys, I'm really new to the production scene and have been hammering away for the past few days just on the mixing phase on my new track. I am thinking about handing it over to a mastering engineer but would really like a comment on the track before I do so. Our ears do play tricks on us when listening to the same track thousands of times.

Here it goes:

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

regards,

hey,

your mix appears to be a little out - it has complexity but the bass drum is a little loud (or the background at the start is too quiet, one or the other) - you might be listening too loud when mixing.

it sounds more balanced at about 3, but I'd still say the textural elements were too quiet (a mastering engineer can't fix this)

My main criticism of the track is that it gets a little repetitive - 5 minutes before it does anything.

5:20 the bass sounds wrong, out of tune.

all through the 5 minutes, the lead really doesn't grab you that much in terms of melody.

I wouldn't send to mastering engineer if I were you, save the money and send it out and see if you get any hits from RCs, my feeling is that the issue isn't the mastering, but that the track doesn't yet have an element that makes it memorable.

hopefully the crit is useful to you and you don't take it the wrong way. If you are feeling fair, have a listen to mine here:

Thanks for your comment, it was very helpful. I've been going back and forth with the quality of the mixing, just depending on the speakers and my mood You have a good point on turning down the speakers and the kick if not just a tad. I'm going to try that out. I should also bring in some automation, experiment with hi or lo cuts to try to bring some life in to the track in it's later stage.

Thanks for the help. It's very much appreciated.
