Montreal raves

Why have Montreal raves gone to the shitters? They charge more and more and get less known djs all the time. I know at the end of it all, it's a profit oriented business. Have you guys seen the line-up? 3 head djs that i've seen at UN. It cost me ... a guest list... NOTHING to see them and now I have to pay 100$ for a ticket?
What ever happened to the guy that was in charge and booked SASHA AND DIGWEED or HERNAN. I used to adore raves because it represented a mega event with BIG STARS. Last year we got a line up of 450-DJs and guy J at the end with a high price. And during that weekend... should I pay 30$ to go to Stereo to listen to Guy J + Cid INC on the best sound system or..... 100$ ( could be way higher if you guys wait ) and hear GOOD djs but soo not worth the price....
Starting to become desperate...

I've made peace with that long ago. Long live the underground!

you guys follow names although you say you don't like commercial music...

paradoxal no ?

Posted by Fran666 on Sep-04-2013 01:25:

anyways black & blue this year has no big commercial djs, only good trance and house music in a warehouse vibe with many shows during the night, world class shows.

it's not only a dj line up, it really is a big show this year with a story line, decor and all.

they are going back to the source.

Posted by Fran666 on Sep-04-2013 01:28:

btw dennis ferrer will not be playing hey hey... he will be playing deep house only.

Posted by Romchik22 on Sep-04-2013 11:44:

That's not the big beef. It's just that when you guys book Sasha Digweed the tickets were less then when you book dennis ferrer... something doesn't give..

yes dj agents don't give...

they take... a lot !!!!

long story short, actually the dj budget is about the same it was, price for the room fell drastically and that difference is put in the show.

they tried booking huge commercial djs and it doesn't work. too many things that explains that failure. competition is one of them. nobody is giving them a break. everyone is against them now. Well like everything else on this scene. No one works together anymore and it's just getting worse and worse.

i couldn't even book guys i've promoted for past 5 years because of politics...

so yeah they are back to a smaller more creative warehouse rave version of black & blue.

music is gonna be top notch i'm not worried.

they are really well loved by the trance crowd. always great events with them and they do mix mostly trance with other stuff too.

they are not only djs that mix tracks, they give a show too

Richard Durand has great technique and is always impressive.

The booking looks like it was done by someone throwing darts at a board with shit from 10 years ago. That being said, Dennis Ferrer is one hell of a DJ.

I'd pay to see Omar Souleyman

Posted by Fran666 on Sep-04-2013 17:37:

really guys. want me to trash your events from now on ?

Posted by Adam420 on Sep-04-2013 18:25:

Who's trashing?

Posted by Fran666 on Sep-04-2013 18:28:

i'm just fed up of smart asses that do nothing but beg for bookings and trash whatever people do.

be constructive or put a knot in it.

It's not true, I praised Circus every single time you guys booked Hernan and Guy J a few months back as well. My concern over the "rave" issue is that the booking qualities are going down and the price of tickets is going up. Now, you work as a promoter in the entertainment business, critique is something that is going to be very common. I used to LOVE going to raves because that's where I used to see the biggest dj names.
But last year and this year, for me black and blue line-up is a total joke. From Chus and Ceballos + Hernan to Satoshie with Dennis Ferrer... or a few years back what was it 6 hours of SASHA and DIGWEED at palais de congres....
I understand that you guys work hard at it... but when a person anticipates for a whole year some SIC name and then.... You also have to understand that.
I could give you guys some recomendations for bookings if you guys feel uninspired :P

since we are a non profit organisation that raises funds for hiv/aids, i urge you to put gestures where that mouth is. we are always looking for volunteers. maybe by implicating yourself you'd understand better the situation. would be more constructive. thanks.

There's the problem.

Aren't you seeing these same big names at the clubs? For far less $? What is it you're really missing out on? Personally I've just found as people get older, the big parties are the first events they stop going to.

sweetness, some of the vets are opting for the big events like Black and Blue and Bal en Blanc and some intimate parties here and there and are skipping the afterhours and nightclubs.

The big festivals have a way of bringing the new and old, the curious and bi curious.

huggs xoxo
