well, your title and your question doesn't align The "pros" probably use software that cost 10k or more and I use SoundForge 5.0 XP for like $50 or something like that. I find that there is nothing that I want to do that SoundForge can't do for me

depends on what mixes you are referring that the pros use.
For instance, if its a mix on a compilation cd, they probably dont edit it themselves, but an audio engineer guy. In addition, its really mixed using a sequencing program such as cubase, pro tools, logic, etc.

However, if its a mix that is recorded live... then its going to be a wave editing program, because its recorded in wave format, most likely... then your talking about soundforge, wave lab, cool edit pro.
To be honest with you, ive spoken to some "pros",,, and some software they use may not be considered so professional, but the reason that they use it is cause they learn to master that program, so its convinient and easy for them to use.
Remember, that if it is then used under a record label, its most likely recorded and edited by a professional in a studio, like i said before, they can be using expensive software and *Hardware like pro tools.
Pro tools is software, but in studios, it can be used with a controller mixer board that they sell. The whole package can be very expensive, but thats a whole other ballpark.
For you, I would recommend soundforge, wavelab or Cool Edit Pro.
