RIP. I bet his death was plotted by the CIA

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Oct-02-2013 17:35:

Really badly plotted.

Posted by on Oct-02-2013 18:39:

I watched many of his books

The moment I actually realised I no longer cared about videogames was while playing Ghost Recon.

The first one?

Yeah. I actually had a fair amount of fun with the multiplayer on both Ghost Recons, but there was a moment in the first one where I started some mission or other and I was so terminally bored I turned round and, in true gamer fashion, shot my teammate in the face. What pissed me off is that the rest of the squad didn't react at all. In that moment, I realised I could no longer accept the contrivances that all videogames use to construct an immersive world. And so I murdered the rest of my comrades, one by one, and then turned the console off. I played other games after that, some fairly obsessively, but never again could I play through a linear single-player.

That irked me a bit as well, but I'd usually go Leeroy Jenkins on the terrorists way too often to actually justify having a backup team to help me... so that wasn't really a problem that ever came up

If anything, I'd only use them to do menial tasks I couldn't be arsed to do myself, and even then I'd make sure they were as cautious as possible, because it often felt like they were playing for team Tango

I don't usually get too worried when celebrities die, but I really like Tom Clancy books.

I'm currently reading....Without Regret (or remorse..i can't remember).

Rainbow Six is probably my favorite book...I'm not sure if it's because I also liked the game, either way, I've read it a few times...fun book!

I wouldnt describe ghost recon as particularly linear- indeed the whole planning phase allowed you to tackle missions in any way you chose?

I loved ghost recon on the xbox for one reason, spawn killing.

I wouldn't know, because I only ever shot my AI buddies. It's not that Ghost Recon in particular strangled me with its linear contrivances, that was merely the moment of realisation that the theme park rails of videogaming had become too glaring for me to ignore.
