Ziptnf - Magic Treasure [rich progressive psytrance]

There were a lot of psytrance releases in 2013, and the last time I made a prog-psy mix, I hammered out a heavy-hitter. Laying it down again this time with more lush, rich, and delicate psytrance. I sorted through a large number of tracks from last year through this year to whittle down to this mix, and reloaded my arsenal with weapons.
I dug deep for these treasures, so enjoy the freshest progressive tunes around! Play it loud!
Alter Nature - Bursting With Life [Ovnimoon]
Flowjob & Motion Drive - Vibrating [Iono]
Mind Spin - Flow [Digital Nature]
Lyctum - Cosmic Web [TesseracTstudio]
Nick Sentience - Expand Your Mind [LW]
Vibrasphere - Autumn Lights (Mindwave Remix) [JOOF]
Solarix & Opposite 8 - Fast Train [Utopia Progressive]
Pulsar & Liquid Sound & Source Code - Sea Tales [Yellow Sunshine Explosion]
Smoke Sign - Dazed Goodbye (Harmless Prankster Remix) [GOA]
Liquid Space - Offbeat Meeting [Iono]
Major Source - Genuine [Sadhu]
Waveform - Magic Therapy [Landmark]
Techyon & Mother Womb - Fountain of light [Digital Freedom]

One of your best mixes yet. It progresses beautifully, you almost can't tell when one track ends and the other one begins. Flawlessly mixed. Great job, Nick!
I started listening and the first track sounded wicked, but then my wireless signal went to hell and it wouldn't stream. You may have to stab me with an extended pole device at some point, but I will try to get round to listening to the full thing soon.
Your tracks stand out a lot when it comes to PSy-Trance, a lot of ear candy if you say. Good Job homie.

I generally try to find the most interesting/unique tracks that are around. There are a million good tracks that I could use, but generally I'm looking for great tracks. For this mix I was looking for tracks with my signature, bouncy, driving bassline, clear-cut melodies, and solid flow without too much of that off-beat chunky gallopy breakdown that is becoming so popular in prog-psy these days.

Giving it a listen, haven't heard any psy for ages.
Running it through a 2nd time, I really like that its 'musical' than a lot of psy sometimes isn't, so you've found some ripper tracks with really nice melodies and riffs that really work well together.

I really enjoyed this mate, Ill echo what Lilith said, it was much more musicla and melodic than i was expecting. Some seriously good tunes in there. That first track is an absolute stormer, will be stealing that...
Mixing wise I thought it was pretty flawless, I certainly didnt notice any clangers and i didnt even notice any of the transitions!
I also thought the programming was excellent, quite happy stuff at the beginning building up to the Vibrasphere track before dropping back down to more stripped back stuff building back up to a more full on finish.
I have to say though, I wouldnt class any of this as progressive psy. In fact I thought this was just some damn good trance!
Top work sir
That's great to hear! Glad you liked it
As far as progressive psytrance vs regular trance, it's kinda tough to draw the line with this style of music. This type of trance is almost a throwback to the trance we remember from 10-12 years ago that was all about heart, melody, and energy, as opposed to the generic vocal horseshit that is pumped out of these mainstream labels at an alarming rate. The melodies and track structure follow classic trance pretty well but the basslines and additional sound engineering (and synths) are borrowed from psytrance. So you could argue for either direction, honestly
I think I recall Stu saying the same thing about my mix from January, Artificial Nature. I think the really good prog-psy these days leans closer to the trance side than the psy side, but there is still some cracking psychedelic shit out there that I will be showcasing next year
Thanks for the support! For a while there I was considering retirement but I keep finding inspiration from the fantastic artists that are still innovating. You just gotta dig a little deeper than you used to!
Good set as usual boss. All the tunes are above par and the mixing is perfect.
I will never be blown away by a set that purely contains this style of trance. I find that whilst never annoying it does get a bit samey. I think I'd have liked it if you had started lamping out something a bit more full on towards the end, or opened with some thing else to make it more of a journey. That said, the opening and closing tunes are class!
I really enjoyed this, Nick. This was definitely what I had in mind when I asked you a month ago about a set to listen to.
Tunes were absolutely fantastic, programming was excellent. The transitions were technically good, but a few of them seemed rather obvious to me. Not that that's a bad thing, just a note.
Probably the set of yours I've enjoyed the most, great job
Thanks guys! Yeah, Jon, I didn't break any new ground with this set, only intended on playing some tasty trance. I keep hearing how much people enjoyed my set from two years ago Mystic Energy (use the alternate link if you wish to download) so I wanted to follow up on it somewhat with another melodic mix. I wanted to avoid going more full-on because the last Lyctum track was as hard as I could go without wanting to dive straight into Fractal Geometry territory. Part of me wishes I would have made this set another 15 or 20 minutes longer, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.
I appreciate the listen, Joseph! Yeah, that's what I was referring to earlier in the thread where I said that I needed to handle the low end more on some of the transitions. With psytrance, basslines and energy is usually so huge (and my phrasing usually lends to a heavier transition because I want to time the good parts of the track right
) that you can hear the basslines overlapping each other a little bit too much. Anyway, hopefully it didn't detract from the tunes, which I enjoyed too
Thanks for all the great feedback everyone! Jack, still waiting for you to recover from your horrible disease that you are giving to other TA's and listen.
You disgusting bastard, you.

This is quite good. Either your track selection has gotten a lot better or your tastes are more similar to mine nowadays (probably a bit of both). One thing that has definitely improved though is the flow. I'm really enjoying the progression in moods of the tracks in this set. This reminds me of a quite melodic and beautiful style of progpsy that I feel I haven't heard in any sets for quite a while. Oh and sorry about my comments during our last exchange.
I put in a lot of effort into this mix. I probably heard 90% of progressive psytrance releases from October of last year to October of this year. But my tastes have always been much like this, with the melodic vibe and all. Check out Mystic Energy if you don't believe me
It's alright, I don't even remember what we argued about other than you telling me I had no idea what I was talking about. I'm willing to squash the beef I suppose. Just don't pull that shit again
On the d/l. Was listening to some nice prog. psy before I left for Israel, will definitely check this out.
Yes Nick - exactly what I was looking for. Psy with melodies! Just had a quick listen through and really enjoyed it but will download and tear it up properly to this in future definitely.
Agree with Dave above though - I'd just call this trance, keeps the hypnotic, driving vibe throughout like the sound should.
Top work.
I find it somewhat refreshing that everyone is adamant in defining this as "trance" as opposed to "psytrance". As I said above, everything about the makeup of these tracks lean toward trance, but they are classified as psytrance because, well, that's what the artists actually produce, and the tracks contain a few psytrance sound structures, synthesizers, and basslines. Everything else identifies with our favorite memories of trance, or what we think trance should be.
I'm glad this mix has gone over relatively well here. Thanks for all the listens and feedback!
Just finished listening, I liked it. Mixing was perfect - I could hardly tell when a track finished, and a new one began.

| Originally posted by Psyshell Totally agree. It just seems to be the direction that some styles of progpsy have been going for at least the past couple of years. Definitely a bit trancier than the other types of progpsy around, but that just means that there's more variety nowadays. Looking forward to your next mix btw! |
