illusions you were dispossessed of, as you got older

for me:

1. just working out and "eating right" (ie, protein shakes + lots of meat etc) will get you to look like a body builder. now i know that just abt everyone that looks like a body builder or is seriously buff/cut, is doing steroids or HGH.

2. night clubs are a great way to meet chics. now i know that the ratio of 5+ guys to every girl is retardedly stacked against you, unless you look like brad pitt with game to match.

3. work hard and you'll "get ahead". do i even need to go into this?

4. ppl with advanced degrees from elite institutions really know their shit. i've worked with a number of such ppl over the years and on the whole, they're no better than anyone else.

what did you realize was complete horseshit as you got older?

People are in general a complete decade behind in their disillusionment. It took you this long?

HGH?

I don't know what you're talking about though: I know plenty of people who have nice bodies simply because they put a lot of effort into in, and adequate exercises, adequate diet, and discipline are more than enough. If anything until earlier this year, the only thing that really kept me from looking ripped is the fact I pull way too many all nighters to let my body rest... but my own father had a killer body because he used to be an amateur swimmer.

Human Growth Hormone.

It's expensive, but it gets you ripped really quickly if you work out a bunch while taking it. Very popular in Hollywood, for getting the stars in "screen" shape, on somewhat short notice.

Oh. My point stands then, you can get ripped without either (growth hormones or steroids).

Your point definitely stands. It's not much simpler than what you said. I would say that "time" and "motivation" are the only real things in the way of most people not being in good shape. And diet, I guess. LOL.

And I say that as someone that's not in great shape I've done pretty well this year though. Getting on top of it. Stupid 30s!

Most people are utterly hopeless one eyed, selfish bastards with very little or no merits, for a while there tried to help people better themselves and get some direction.
But for the majority when they end up in a dead end, that is where they actually belong in the world, regardless of how entitled they think they may be to attain something better.

Haha, tell me about it! Though, to be honest, the reason I underwent some serious enchubbement this year is because I really let myself go after I hurt my left foot, so I decided to give rotund Lira a go.

I sort of need to snap out of it though, it's enough

I'd relate to this if you said "some", but most?

Posted by Lilith on Oct-06-2013 07:41:

I say most, because most people have very little objectivity when it comes to self improvement or educated criticism of their behaviour. Surely as an teacher you'd see for yourself that the majority of your students would probably fall into 3 categories;

A tiny percent that genuinely want to improve what they know, even at a serious challenge of their own preconceptions or drastic changes to their personal direction.
A big fat lump in the middle that are swinging their legs going lalalala, I'm here because I have to be and will do the minimum effort to pass.
Another smaller lump that have decided now is a good time to switch off, have a nap, browse the net on a smartphone and meh-whatever on their laptop/doodle on a note pad.

Its not an idealists situation, its just reality.

can you show me some pics of what you mean by ripped? i think we might be using different definitions here.

i'm talkin abt ppl that look like dwayne "the rock" johnson, or even hugh jackman in "x-men". even tho hugh jackman doesn't have as much muscle mass as the rock, i'll bet good money that either a) a good bit of magic touching up (CGI etc) was done to make him look as fit, or b) a liberal regimen of PEDs was used during or immediately prior to filming, to get him in that shape.

i've had numerous trainers and such over the years, and every single one admitted to using some kind of PED, many would even offer them to me at inflated rates.

so if you're talking about ppl that are just in "good shape" then yes, that's certainly possible. but i'm talkin abt the 6-pack abs and ultra-defined muscular look of movie stars here.

I did wonder how these guys manage to pack on so much muscle so quickly. Is this legal then?

it isn't legal, and real HGH is quite expensive - significantly more expensive than steroids, even. which is why only movie stars and well off ppl can afford it.

Yeah, the results are pretty impressive. I was under the impression it was legal, but only by prescription and under the supervision of a doctor... but I may be wrong, or that may have changed. It probably differs from country to country as well, but Hollywood doesn't really care about things like that anyway.

Oh, I meant bodies women might actually find attractive, like that swimmer body look, so we're working on different definitions here

Well... in a sense, yeah. It depends quite a lot on the institution as well, but there's some truth to that :/

HGH is usually prescribed for little kids that aren't growing for whatever reason, or AIDS patients or something trying to combat muscle atrophy. in fact, one of my trainers used to insist that that's how HGH first got into the bodybuilding scene - AIDS patients trading it with bodybuilders for training sessions or something. personally i think that's a bunch of bull. i do hear that anti-aging clinics prescribe it, but then i'm pretty sure that getting a prescription from such a clinic costs $$$$.

anyway, if you're a normal person with no health issues, you'll almost certainly need to go the underground route to acquire it, and it's pretty expensive (the really good quality HGH can run into the 1000s). there's also a ton of scam artists only too happy to sell you junk HGH.
