Why do YOU post about EDM (or other EDM) in a TRANCE Forum?
I think it's a legitimate question. I imagine there are other sites and forums for EDM of other styles.
But let me be clear, this is not meant to be a volatile thread. It is just an open-ended question for anyone who cares to share their thoughts.
why not......

Believe me if there were any other place to go I'd gladly GTFO.
The internet is full of niche communities, since trance is a niche that's pretty much dead you can actually find some interesting cross-genre discussions here from the people that were forced to move on over the years.
a) trance fucking sucks now b) many people that used to listen to trance listen to other genres now c) these days people that are new to trance go to other places instead of this forum d) most other sites and forums suck balls

Look at it this way, when you're in a niche community everyone likes the same stuff and apart from a few marginal squabbles it will generally consist of lovely-dovelike circle jerks and endless youtube embeds. When you eventually want to move on due to overexposure you will have learned nothing and are probably forced to find another hobby altogether or spend the rest of your time complaining about the state of affairs whilst drowning your pain with precious nostalgia and memories about how things used to be.
In something like this community however, you'd (ideally) get a lot of different interests bound together in a volatile mixture. People will have to make appeals justifying why there taste is the way it is, their views constantly being challenged forcing them to look at a wider perspective. All in all a much more interesting and rewarding way to spend your time.
A niche community can be a beautiful thing.
I also respect everyone's right to their own interests here.
I will post a quick suggestion in the Suggestion Forum.
every genre at least what is new is usually just taking things from different genres and putting them together. Trance arguably died when they stopped making triple stacked mercedes Es.

...because this sub-forum has *always* been open to discussion about EDM other than Trance

Discogs - quite dead, unless you're looking to show off your massive vinyl collection or talk about the latest obscure dub techno white label. 2. Resident Advisor - Almost only relegated to promotions hype, scene gossip, and bitching about the latest review-rating 'controversy'. 3. DI.Fm - Really dead, unless you're one of those twats that comments 'MASSIVE TUNE!' to every single track that plays on a station. 4. InTheMix - Like RA, but dumber. Meanwhile, other forums dedicated specifically to trance are just as barren, possibly the only one that has any interesting activity being the Anjunabeats Forum (yeah, I lurk there on occasion...). Yeah, I'll take what TA offers, thank you very much. |
trance fans are a lot more open minded than house music purists....
that's why

other types of EDM have a lot of the same qualities and elements that made you love trance. it's natural, especially now that trance has effectively died.
almost everyone fairly well aquainted with trance was aware - and dabbled in other types of EDM.
i mean, back in the day, even ferry corsten used to drop bombs like killahurtz - west on 27th!
if it was natural to build a set using different types of trance, then it is also natural to branch out into other types of EDM... many of your favourite (so called) trance artists probably lead you there in one way or another.
yupi. i still remember the classic armin set @ID&T radio that he played some hooj choons/saeed and palash/james holden/dj cyber stuff.
