covers in dance
a lot of great work, including a lot of hits get covered, without props or payment to the original artists (i dont think?) there is sometimes little hints or nods to the original in the title, sometimes not.
covering goes on probably more than you think, and in various forms. it often comes as a surprise when you hear the original of a tune you've known well for ages, and you are like... WTF?! and then it clicks.
i know brainbug - nightmare is a cover of some earlier work, can't remember the original though.
here is an example, always loved the PVD version... really amazing tune, and you gotta love the original, could it could any more german/european? especially those vocals
the spell binding massive wailing synth is there almost intact, can see why he was drawn to it.
Wow hearing the love from above again makes want to take a pill.
One I've been hammering recently:
A cover of Love On A Real Train by Tangerine Dream.
got the original for comparison?
junkie xl got a number 1 with his elvis cover, or whatever it was labelled. elvis vs JXL. couldn't even say junkie? maybe because the king had become one, in the end?!
also PPK - resurrection was a number 1, pretty sure that's a rip off of someone else's work.
recently heard this on the radio, the old cogs started spinning trying to work out what the all too-familiar dance version was.
thought it was ATB at first with that hawaiian sound, but it was york - on the beach. loved that tune, especially the CRW mix.
fun fact: CRW was named after mauro picotto's dad's stonemason business
that finitribe track is insane!

Global Communication - 8:07 has got to be in my top 5 of all time. It's so ca$h.

I can get it re-upped. I've got all my stuff on my external.
If you would be so kind.
that ppk track got caned on radio when it was out, hated it! knew the orange theme was a cover of some sorts. vangelis has been covered quite a few times i believe. my favourite being gouryella - tenshi, from vangelis light and shadow.
and it has to be said, i love the tenshi video. can't quite put my finger on it, but it's something to do with the emotion of the symphonic melodies combined with the contrast of cold metal robotics.
tenshi remains one of my favourte trance tunes ever. the synth is really harsh, raw and rough, but it plays a gorgeous melody, something... 16th century about it. that, and the rest of the tune is perfect, so driving - massive energy levels, and ferry corsten's best bassline... and i regard ferry as the best bassline producer in trance... he had that nailed!
orange theme has a spiritual connection with tenshi i feel
this humate mix of dj sammy's remix of don henley's boys of summer is awesome - mesmerising break. loved humate in this style - only lasted a few tunes, amazing productions.
interestingly dj sammy seems to have changed the wording in parts, but when it came on the radio, i recognised it instantly, and had a chuckle. the original is so camp.
Don Henley - Boys Of Summer by jpdc11
this is an awesome one.
kernkraft 400's zombie nation was taken from an old c64 game. it was a big hit too, charted at number 2 in the UK. wonder if the game creator seen any pay cheque, or if he was even entitled to anything?!
featured in the sopranos also!
This original I still remember and it's 30 years ago now:
