Interview with Airwave on the Passionate DJ Podcast

Hey guys,

Haven't been posting much these days, largely because I've been focusing on my latest project. I started a website called PassionateDJ.com, which is a blog and podcast about becoming a better DJ through passion and purpose.

Hopefully the Swamp-man doesn't find this to be too spammy... but, of course, I will remove it if so.

The site is not trance-specific. But, most recently, I interviewed Laurent Vronnez... better known as Airwave. (He posts on here as "Lolo").

Life of a Full-Time DJ & The State of Modern Trance w/Laurent Vronnez (aka Airwave)

In this episode, we discuss:

- What its like to be a traveling DJ and raise a family simultaneously

- Why you have to be a little bit (fully) crazy to pursue music full-time

- Why the accessibility of music creation tools today is such a good thing

- Why Laurent would never go back to the days before the digital revolution

- Why tools dont make the musician

- Where Laurent thinks the trance genre is headed in the future

You can check it out right here:

Thanks for the heads up. Seem to be having some trouble with my web host today (what bad timing!)

Here is a temporary download link: Download Episode 5 Here! (Select the link that says "Click here to start download from sendspace", not any of the other "download" or "play" buttons.)

And a long listen, I started yesterday evening and enjoyed the first 12 minutes.

Lengthy indeed, however more insightful than hearing this weeks hot new DJ who talks like he/she has some legacy behind them already. He could have cashed out long time ago...he's one of the few people I still respect in the EDM world.

It's long one indeed probably the longest I've ever listened to. He's always a very honest guy with his responses and very thorough as well.

I just finished listening.

Very nice interview, Airwave for sure is passionate. I already was following Airware on Facebook, so it was sort of inline with his posts there.

I also want to say that it was well done by David. Asking his questions not too quickly at least made it easy for me to understand and follow. Airwave was given all the time he needed for his answers.

Wow, great interview!

This was a good listen. I really liked the section where he talks about John Fleming: "I just want to make sure that the poeple around me are in great shape as well".

That's a awesome attitude to have. Something I aspire to, but find quite difficult.

Hey guys,

Glad you're enjoying the interview. Yeah, I'm shooting for right around an hour with my podcasts. Perhaps a bit longer than people are used to as far as interviews go, but it's meant to be more like sitting around with a cup of coffee and chatting rather than a quick rushed interview with the same basic questions everyone else asks.

I won't just interview someone because they are a big name DJ. They have to have something of value to deliver to my listeners. I want every episode to either be a learning experience, or a catalyst for inspiration.

If you guys are enjoying this, I would really appreciate it if you'd take a second to give it an honest rating and review in iTunes. It only takes a second, and would really help me out.

Leave a review on iTunes

Keep the feedback coming guys, and thanks a ton for the listens.

I think there's really something to be said for someone who shifts their focus in that direction. When you focus on providing value to other people... whether that's as a DJ, musician, entrepreneur, teacher or anything else, it's amazing how much more success you have overall. It's nice to be nice!

Interesting interview, like it got my attention throughout so nice job. Lolo does come off as a very genuine person, here and the small time I have skyped with him. Its nice to see his career is working out for him, and that he and John care about musical integrity and relationships. Its massive to see the contrast between him and most others that are into electronica, including the people in here.

Yeah, it really was a treat to be able to speak with him. Very nice, down to earth guy who just doesn't have time for all the BS.
