Minimal Trance:
i.Trance with a strong beat, but a very minimal synth line. Stuff like much of Legion of Green Men's stuff.
ii.Trance with not much beat, washy synths which develop slowly, like the rest of Legion of Green Men's stuff that isn't Dub.

Goa Trance: Psychedelic Trance, almost the same thing as Psytrance, but tends to have a more spiritual feeling. Adds an even more trippy psychedelic feel to trance, plus some middle-eastern and south-asian influences. Name comes from Goa, a resort town on the west coast of India, a popular attraction for European tourists, where it was popularized; most of the music itself comes from the UK. Goa Trance is most often distributed on DAT or MP3; this tradition is supposed to have started because vinyl would melt in the hot temperatures in Goa. Goa tends to make use of a more diverse range of beats than other styles of trance, and tends to frequently forgoe any sense of melody, favouring instead a more cacophonous feeling. This last part also applies somewhat to psytrance. There are Goa DJs and Psytrance DJs who will swear to the ends of the earth that Goa and Psytrance are exactly the same thing, and there are others who spin either or both who maintain with equal fervour that any fool who's never heard electronic music before could tell the two apart.

Psytrance: Another name for Goa Trance, to some, or something slightly different from Goa to others.

Progressive Trance: Kinda soft, commercial trance. This is what Paul Oakenfold spins primarily.

Hard Trance: Like hard house, but faster and darker. Like Rotterdam, but slower.
Hard House: Faster, pounding boom boom beat. Like Happy Hardcore but slower.
Happy Hardcore: Upbeat, happy 4-beat hardcore. Emerged from Hard House, and uses a lot of house samples. Traditionally, a heavy use of piano lines, although popular material usually avoids this. Contemporary happy hardcore usually consists of a cheesy 80s pop-rock song, usually something particularly sappy, sped up, with a hardcore 4-4 beat added over top, and a synth line thrown in, typical of Dutch hardcore anthems.
Rotterdam: Dark 4-beat, emerged from Hard Trance. Pounding distorted bass kick. About 180-220bpm. There are only a few places in the world that actually differentiate between Rotterdam and Gabba, mainly Toronto, some places in California, and a few places in Europe. Nowadays, the term Rotterdam refers more to something sort of across between happy hardcore and gabber.

Acid Trance: 303-type synth over a Trance beat, frequently with harsh vocal samples. This is typical of much of the trance produced lately, since the development of ReBirth by Steinberg software

Hard Acid Trance: 303-type raspy synth over a Hard Trance beat.

Met a TV producer this weekend, very much into Jazz, his collection is just awesome. Rare vinyls, biography, authentic stuff signed by great performers the whole bunch. Has been to places, met some great people. His house was just Jazz you know. The moment you walked in you could actually feel the Jazz vibe. So that got me thinking, how much are we into TRANCE really. How big is our own collection??? Or are we just trying to have it all on disk and just grab everything we can???

abslooutely not. If i dont like what im hearing then it dont go onto cdr. Im proud of my collection in that i could take out any cd i hav, and know that there is 700mb worth of music that i can put into winamp, put it on random, and no i wont need to skip a track coz its poo.


edit: and since im a 56k user, i cant really just grab nething i want whenever i want. I have to be picky about what i chose.

i have lots but i have never counted them but it is more than 1500

I have a folder called "Stuff To Sort" and basically nething i download goes into here. Within this stuff to sort goes all mp3s, videos, setup files etc. If the mp3, video, program is any good then i tag it properly, give it a tracklist etc. and bung it in a subfolder ie. Singles, Live Sets, Videos, Applications, etc.. If its crap then it goes in the recycle bin Once a folder approaches 700mb i chuck it on cdr, and then run a program on it called listmaker, the basically lists the contents of the cd, the size of each file, if its an mp3 it also lists the bitrate. I have a massive cd folder. Live sets go at the front, and singles and videos go at the back, and someday they'll meet in the middle and i'll spalsh out on a new folder. Anywayz.. the list that i hav just made gets printed out and i fold it up and put it in the cd wallet with the cd. Mite seem a bit strange doing this, but its very organsied, and its very easy to locate any mp3 i no hav within minutes. Works for me

TranceSeeker prob has the most. last time there was a thread like this he a good few thousand

I have about 3,120

last time I checked I had around 6k, but thats not much.. I know guys who have about 60k songs..

Does it make you a better person if you have more mp3s than someone else?

I've only got about 900 mp3s But I like 'em all and that's what matters.

I've got about 200 cd's filled with mp3 files, but their are not only trance...

I donwload atleast 5-10 songs a day. I been doing that for the past 2-3 years. I think I have about 3,000-4,000

Couldn't help but just laugh my ass off. I know this shit! Doesn't work for me. I always find myself "refoldering"...
Need to know, the name of the album, so start making folders with album names etc...

I would appreciate someone having 10 mp3 and he/she knows why he/she has it then someone with a 80 gig server telling me....well...just cuz...you know...like...uhhh...unoz..dunno
