PC vs Console
I need some help here. I have 1000 USD to spend on a gaming system but there is the PS2, GC, XBox, plus I could upgrade my PC with the latest Video Card and all that stuff, but I dont know which choice would be better, which has the best games, graphics, etc. What would you recommend?
well that all depends on what type of games you like to play. if youre big into online, i think the pc is still your best option. consoles will have that use, but i think the pc is still the best bet currently. if you like big time rpgs, again the computer is your best option. its an interesting time right now, cause the pc and consoles are getting a lot of the same games at the same time. consoles have been typically known for twitchy, fast action games. thats becoming a little less true now, alt i think the ps2 and the gc hold true to that.
ps2 has the gran turismo series, as well as the gta series - plus a good number of cheap, excellent games. it plays dvds out of the box, and has gotten most of the kinks worked out as far as crashing/breaking is concerned.
gamecube is the cheapest of the consoles and will have classic nintendo gameplay - excellent gameplay. it wont play dvds, but thats not a necessary function and it keeps the price down. with this you get your zelda, mario, starfox, and most other games out for the other consoles. best controller ever.
xbox is a pc in consoles clothing. if that interests you, it may be your choice. beyond more power - that which your computer may be able to match or beat - it doenst really offer much else your computer doesnt already do. it will play dvds if you buy the remote for xtra $$...stupid. its got halo, which is an awesome game. it will most definitely have good games, many of which you can get on pc. oh, and btw this has the WORST controller ever invented, typical microsoft.
pretty much its just a matter of $$, which you seem to have enough of, and which games interest you, etc. the computer, depending on how much you will need to upgr ade, is also possible. alt remember you have to deal with compatibility issues, and crashing programs more often. its less people friendly too - your friends prolly dont wanna huddle around a computer, like a console. good luck, just research everything|

i agree fastmp3, but get a better stand, the sony one looks much better. and 3rd party ones have been known to cause vibrations that scratch your games
which is most defenatly not cool.
im a nerd, i need sleep.

It'd cost about 500.
But don't get FIFA - it's shit. Get Pro Evolution Soccer. Best football (fuck off am I using 'soccer') game ever.
I'd say upgrade ur pc. Once uve played a game on ur PC, going back to a console is impossible. And i love playing a more active role by actually using the mouse and the keyboard rather than holding a console and playing with fingers and thumbs. Plus with ur pc u can play online, something which i love to do.
I reckon PC is the way to go as well. I prefer the controls on a PC heaps more than a ps2/gc/xbox. However PC doesnt get games that consoles do, but you'd miss out on some games which ever one you chose.
i would also go with a PC as opposed to a console. there's a certain feel that i've grown accustomed to over the years. i dunno. if you're not a hardcore gamer than go with a PC i guess.
I would say if you are a hardcore gamer then go with a PC rather than a console. I mean there are huge online communities for pc games and i think that simple online play (ie easy to get into) gives the games a lot more depth due to competition provided.
this is way too general of a question to ask unless we know what kind of stuff you like playing
for me, i only play rpgs. i grew up with console ones (started with dragon warrior 1 on the nes), and pc ones when they USED to be good, such as the Ultima series (1 through 7 part 2.. 8,9, and online are garbage), Quest for Glory, etc.
so, for me, PS2 is the only way to go. not thinking about the fact that only two or three good rpgs have come out for it ever, but it plays psx games, and thats where the good rpgs are. xbox has rpgs but they are basically like playing the computer so thats pointless.
and i dont play pc rpgs anymore beacuse they all are cookie cutter and are the same. bah.
so again, depends on what you like to play
i like computer games (old ones), but theres still something to be said about having a controller in your hands and playing it on a tv, not a monitor.
