lack of active members

if you haven't noticed, swampz has installed a mod on the board that follows how many members sign in during a day.

it reads atm the highest amount was 1504 thus far, and that today it's nearly 1300.

now assuming that ppl are on vacation or just simply didn't log on that day, that's still an extremely low number.

i mean out of over 12k+ members only 1.5k sign in? a little bit of leeway here, 500 TAs didn't sign in because of wutever. that's still less then 20% of the total amount.

where are all my trancers @?

Make that 1301 You f00

I took a weeks exile from the net so i didn't count, but now i'm back lol

I've noticed that as well though lynx. This is typical of any forum though i reckon. As people keep signing up we've got soo many members that aren't dropping in anymore. Hell i think we've lost about 50% of the old schoolers and i guess thats just what happens. Also is this on a daily or weekly basis because if it's daily it couldn't take into account those who don't come on every day for whatever reason

Posted by whiskers on Oct-02-2002 02:28:

dudes, this is actually good. if 12,000 members signed in at once, can you imagine the mayhem and the chaos they'd create?

1. slooooooooooooooooooooooow forums
2. IMMENSE amounts of SPAM, and i mean WAY TOO MUCH of it

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Oct-02-2002 02:29:

yeah, that's true too. it's a daily recording of users comin' in. still a huge gap many of the REGULAR old skoolers are still around tho, they've just huddled into their own forums. you know what i mean tranz, jeff and anita are in the UK forums nowadays, etc etc

just imagine if this board was packed to 12k everyday. haha, mad bandwidth probs.

I have a few pretty out there idea's for this place that would see it multiply by 10x easy but i dunno if swamper is up for it. I mean he's busy enough by the looks of it but here's some idea's

1. redesign the site (looks in the general direction of a certain philandering and often-prancing feline by the name of lynx)

2. Make the forums easier to navigate (particularly all the regional forums

3. Start a new area of the site devoted to Promoting Dj's and have profiles for them and some of their work. Allowing promoters to check you out and see what sorta stuff you're capable of. I've seen this done elsewhere and it struck me as a brilliant idea, hell we've got soo much talent here. why not make TA a all in one stop shop

4. Maybe get a few smart cookies to start a DJ equipment/records sales co and integrate it in the website. Wanna get those hard to find mixes of out of the blue? Yup we have it all here

How kick ass would that be?

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Oct-02-2002 02:51:

all good ideas tranz. i especially like that promoters bit. that's a mad amount of work in that tight little paragraph of yours.

i'd love to help swampz out with the design but i'm totally pressed for time when it comes to work. i have 2 film projects going on right now, a site, and my personal work.

unless i was...lets say...paid. then i could work something out later on this year maybe...*cough* hehe.

Posted by Tranzmit on Oct-02-2002 03:00:

Well how about we all chip in 50 cents for linx

EDIT my earlier post

5. How about we also have a reviews section handled by a few TA's too. New CD's/records/tracks that rock/get a few of the UKTA f00s to write a review of only half the events they go to etc(Pimps)

Hell in time start a TA record label and sign up people

(i see the future baby) Hell yea!!!

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Oct-02-2002 03:05:

lol. hey if you all chip in 50 cents each, i'll be a rich man. heck i'll drop all of my work now and do the best fucking site eva. lmao.

remember that whole TA record label phase? so many great ideas and inspirational quotes and shit. but it fell through in the end

dammmmn.

What does signing-in mean actually? Putting in your username and password? Because I have mine stored and haven't put it in on this computer for years LoL.

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Oct-02-2002 03:26:

haha well if cookies are involved it does the signing in for you. same deal m8.

Posted by Tranzmit on Oct-02-2002 03:44:

This can so be done Linx, but Swamper needs to see whats possible first. Until the idea is shown to you it doesn't even exist if you know what i mean

Uhm

How can the regional forums be any easier to navigate than they are now?

1) The descriptions for regional forums within Country Headers had to have me set up a php script with a redirect because vBulletin limits the amount of characters in a description (even if it's in HTML) so I couldn't link to individual forums in the description without doing this

2) If you click on the Country/Continent you see all threads from that region before you so you can browse what's going on in other parts without going to them individually

Both of those are custom mods I had to do

Also Lynx, on average with most forums you'll be hard pressed to get anything above 10% participation from members - TA is quite high actually - and it's for this reason you won't find many other forums willing to put up stats like that - they prefer for you to assume a higher % of their members are active (when they're not)

Posted by Tranzmit on Oct-02-2002 06:06:

I guess i thought there'd be a way to do it through frames perhaps so that you could have all the forums open on the left and you could just browse through them? Maybe the forum software won't allow it. I don't know much about web design as it never really interested me. Graphic design on the other hand....

What did you think about the other suggestions? Would it be too hard to implement? Or is it just a pipedream?

yeah tru say tru say. i mean it's amazing how big this community has grown and how active the board is. despite the low % of active members, i know that it happens with every board. and you make a good point about how not many other forums are willing to put up numbers like this. either way, the board will always be the best board around.

Well the UKTA's have that as a work in progress, as a few of them are getting their producing skills up to scratch.
tu_face is putting together some excellent tunes as is projectT to name but 2 of our talented bunch.

Having ur own label costs & $$$$ to start with, and many of the UKTA's are still in education so & $$$$ is a bit lacking at the mo

Actually, I have found the TrancEaddict Forums the most active ever! Other forums I've seen are sluggish, but here, same day posts overflow to the second page

yes, that's a good way to make my IE crash more often.

we need a poll on this. i, personally, think the forums are fine the way they are.
