Can you make a living off djing

what about mobile djing. If I can at least get two gigs a week chargine around 250 each then that is about 2000 bucks tax free a month. that is more than enough for me actually

first, a small piece of unsolicited advice. stop asking so many questions, just jump in and do it!

second, to answer your question, i don't know. some people make a living mobile DJing, and some don't.

It's up to you to decide if djing will be sufficient for your style of living. Its a matter of opinion, so everyone will have their own individual opinion, and answers may vary.

John Smith has a point, just go and do what you want to do. If you are afraid of making a mistake, then do some extensive research. Realize that many of the answers are already on the forum, just do a search on the topic.

Obviously, there is no problems with you asking questions, but you may want to gather your questions, write them down, put them in one thread. Whats up with so many different threads?

I doubt that you can make a comfortable living mobile DJing, but it can certainly supplement your income. Say you had a 5 day job, you could do two 21sts on Friday and Saturday night and get AU$400 (US$200) for each night, which is $800 extra to supplement your income. Mind you, the initial outlay for gear is quite heavy.

as for your question
it is possible... but it takes a while to become established
once you're established, then you can start making a lot more

my boss can retire any day now if he wanted to
we charge about 500 for a basic setup

you should be able to get away with 250 a show... but you should become registered or whatever...
cause walking away tax free will come back to bite you in the ass

my suggestion to you
apply to a few mobile dj companies an your area, learn the basics
then once you're comfortable, then go out on your own

cause all it takes is one bad complaint about an un-established dj, and i'm pretty sure you won't get another booking

we get a lot of out business from wedding planners and hotels
they refer the client to us

you need to build that trust with the people in the industry
or i'm sure you won't have a lot of business

and being un-established... you won't have 2 shows a weekend... more like 2 shows a month... if you're lucky...


but prove me wrong if you wish... i'm just speaking from experience

i dont' think its possible to live completely off dj'ing unless you're really popular and have lots of regular shows a week

what most local djs do is work a small job on the side so they at least for sure have a constant income every week...because with dj'ing sometimes you never know when the next time you might play is and i personally wouldn't want to live my life not knowing when my next paycheck is coming in

But seriously, the pay's good and it gives you heaps of experience.

In my heyday as an internet poster, i would spend an hour right now, berating you, going on about stupid little rich kids (or worse, ones with rich relatives), who buy the best stuff, and then have the nerve to say, "can i make money off of this?" (i'd probably also tear into the fact that first you said you had 2 CDJ1000s, then you said one each of CDJ100, and one of CDJ1000) i questioned you, you didn't even have the courtesy to respond. then i'd probably accuse you of making the whole thing up. but.. who knows if that is true, maybe it is a misunderstanding.

in any case, i have grown a little since i got on the 'net, and i realize that would be a waste of time, so you go your way, and i will go mine. you have completely lost my respect, and i will not help you again.

have fun with your CDJs, making money, i;ll be in my dining room playing with my technics to a crowd of one for free.

I dunno what the point of this was, I guess just my feelings that if you want to go somewhere and aren't the next avb you better be comfortable with getting bossed around and playing allll sorts of musical genres.

Errr....you're not too much above the poverty line.......

But if it's cash in hand than I guess you could also apply for government unemployment subsidies on top of the money that you're earning through DJing.

Oh, I forgot, they don't have any of that social welfare stuff over in the states
