Which is the best bang for buck virus ti/2?

Also how low have you seen said piece?

I owned a Polar TI1 and sold it a few years ago when I found a great deal on a 61-key TI2. Personally, I think that the TI1 is a better bang for your buck, especially if you can find one in good condition at an excellent price. All TI1/TI2/Snow versions sound the same, and the improvements and increase in cpu don't really do a whole lot to improve performance IME. But, that also probably depends on how you use it. You'll find that you'll run out of either polyphony or processing power if you try to complete an entire track using more than 4 or 5 patches simultaneously, maybe a little more with the TI2, but that depends on patch complexity, how many effects you have running, how many notes you're playing, etc. I rarely/never use more than one patch at a time, unless I bounce one to audio first, so it really wouldn't matter to me if I had a TI1 or a TI2.

I haven't really followed prices on Viruses much lately, so not sure what they're going for now, but I know that I've seen TI1 desktops sell for around $1K, TI1 Polars/keyboards sell for around $1400.

If you don't need a keyboard version, are OK using the software editor much of the time, and you only want to use a few sounds at a time, a second-hand Snow may well be the best way to go.

Over here it's either the original Ti desktop (can be had for as low as 700) or for me the Snow. I just bought a Snow for 450.

I used to have a Ti keyboard, but the reality is that with the limited multi timbrality (3 usb outputs and the analogue out) and the fact that it can be a little flaky when used live in a mix I end up rendering to audio the majority of the time anyway (as do most users I would imagine) so the extra polyphony isn't really relevant.

Get one, you won't regret it.

i'll always recommenced the virus b desktop, if you're patient you can find one for around $500

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Dec-11-2013 19:39:

also sounds the best of all the them.

Posted by UrbanNinja on Dec-11-2013 19:46:

I don't get the whole Virus thing, isn't it just a midi keyboard + a vst for a 1000$, why not buy Zebra\Diva\Massive + a midi keyboard or nice Analog synth instead?

what's da deal with hardware. I could of made srgt pepper with my cracked fl and waves.

If you have the money tho, get the ti2. Sure the b has the grit but considering the ti2 well when it works ,

What fucking kills me are developers that don't make their hardware a fucking midi controller plugin for daws. Sometimes i feel like most companies shoulld lose their shirts.

If you make a synth ,

A. Plugin to control parameters.
B. iOS app to control shit,

If you can't take the 2 weeks to do this. Yiu dint deserve to run a business.

No, it's a hardware synth, pretty powerful one at that, that works in standalone mode, but can also integrate with your DAW via a dedicated plugin, also works as an audio card, a completely programmable MIDI controller, a hardware effects unit, and comes with arguably the nicest (Fatar) keybed available for a synth. Soundwise, sure, lots of soft synths get the job done, so if you don't need or want to invest in something that does what the Virus TI does, you don't need to.

Exactly.

If you want 'that' sound, then there's still no plugin that touches the virus. I tried to find it and failed

Posted by meriter on Dec-12-2013 10:46:

oh ok, that makes more sense

Just one more noob question: how is it better than say a Nord Lead 3?

Same here man. It was a failed conquest.

Flutlicht used the ts404 and Vaz for everything.

The Virus isn't better, just different and with more features. The NL3 doesn't have the DAW integration, or the audio card, has fewer parts, etc., but was also cheaper. That said, I would argue that, feature-for-feature, the one area when the Virus is better is the keybed. The keybed on the Virus Polar and keyboard models are far superior to the ones on the Nords - it's pretty annoying that Clavia makes such a great synth, then slaps a cheap-ass keybed on it. Regardless, the Nord Rack 3 is still one of my favorite hardware synths to this day.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, save your money and buy something else, no need for a virus.

Oh wow - really? You said it before? How many times did you say it? Where did you say it? Can you post a link? Is it true that the more times you say it, the truthier it gets?

I think I speak for everybody on this forum when I say thank you so much, guy on internet, for telling us (at least twice) that we don't "need" a Virus. We had no idea.
