au.ta mix-up competition

for this to happen we need to volunteers who are willing to part with webserver space in order to put mixes online...

mission: if you choose to accept is to record an approx 1 hour long set of any genre...

mixes hopefully can be downloaded by your fellow au.ta critics and a poll shall be setup to judge the best mix. obviously those who mix trance will have a head start

good luck

As soon as i get the vinyl i ordered i'll start mixing, good luck to everyone

Unless anybody in Adelaide can lend me some TTs, I'll have to do it on CD :-( When do you want the mixes by? I can host them all, but not on webspace, just on my computer (I've got a 10Mbit connection). You can all access them using the Electronic Music Community direct connect hub (formerly known as the TrancEaddict Direct Connect Hub).

My bandwidth is bigger than your bandwidth ... OK, I'll stop being a typical male. Actually, while the theoretical limit of my conneciton is 10mbit, the maximum I've ever uploaded at is 980k/sec. 10mbit = 1200k/sec right?

Posted by Bedrock on Oct-04-2002 09:22:

good response people

I think we'll have a limit of 1 month to get the mixes in
what do you reckon?

we'll need to get the server space fixed up pretty soon, so we can upload the mixes in a fairly short space of time.

Get mixing people, and good luck

IM IN! You are all going down!

Next week I can record onto my comp when my parents go away cause then I can move the TTs to the comp.

BTW please help! What things do I need to record my mixing to Computer? What leads, plug to where etc etc. Can someone please give me the full run down.

Also I dont have much webspace (15 mb) so ill just chuck my mix on the hub for you all to d/l.

IM GONNA KICK YOUR ASSES! hahahahaahahahah

Good Luck

Posted by Chuck Norris on Oct-04-2002 13:30:

I don't think 15mb would be enough for a mix over 1 hour !

Posted by matt_a on Oct-04-2002 13:44:

Excatly. So I think everyone will have to d/l mine from the Hub

Posted by jc on Oct-04-2002 13:47:

trancy ash - you need a RCA cable hooked up from your mixer directly to the input of your computer's soundcard

can get this from dicksmith electronics for about $12 (depends how long you need the lead to be)

Posted by matt_a on Oct-04-2002 13:57:

from the 'rec' holes in my mixer?

i know master is for master amp and booth is for monitor speakers?

BTW where can I get recording software too, for free preferably!

Posted by DJ Dowlz on Oct-04-2002 14:13:

Well if you're cheapass like me and want to record straight to mp3, use messer. You can download it here:

http://www.mpex.net/en/software/details/messer.html

*Why am I helping my competition?*

Posted by hey cheggy on Oct-04-2002 15:20:

sweet. I already did my mix the other day, only its like 900MB which might be a bit large. I could shrink it down to like 80MB though, or god forbid, go below the 128kbps rate.

Posted by webmeister on Oct-04-2002 15:24:

do MP3 mixes count???

Posted by JoeCool on Oct-04-2002 15:29:

LMAO!! I'd do one up but i don't have cable so uploading it would be a bitch and a half, though i do have a nice shiny 32X writer? It's funny because i mix all the time but usually live while streaming online so i've never bothered recording them

Ah well

how do I get myself to this Direct Connect Hub exactly? FTP?

Posted by jc on Oct-05-2002 07:01:

trancey ash, your mixer has 2 outputs
one lead goes to your monitoring system the other goes to your computer input

for recording I use sound forge 6 and the quality is amazing (considering I have the shittest soundcard)

download the demo from www.sonicfoundry.com and just find a crack for it

Posted by jc on Oct-05-2002 07:07:

Can I suggest (to make all the genres equally fair) that voters take certain criteria into account when listening to the mixes, something along the lines of

track selection
progression of the set (not anthem after anthem)
mixing skills
originality

just a thought
