Ugh, after 3 weeks of partying, drinking, puffing and generally doing jackshit, school's on Monday. I'm havin a go at some homework due back first day, but god damn.. i just cant concentrate!!! Hahahah. All i'll say is, good luck to those going back to school/uni this week, or in the next little while

Dan Applegate was a senior engineer with Convair, subcontractors for the design and building of the McDonnell-Douglas DC-10 aircraft. What uni are you at, DJ Dowlz? If your library has access to the ProQuest or LexisNexis electronic databases, use those. They're a goldmine of journal and newspaper articles.

I'm a 4th year management student, so I know a little bit about this sorta thing I did fairly well in ethics, so PM me for any help.

Thanx SQ-K for the changes! I've actually got quite a number of photocopied chapters from ethics books, so research ain't a problem. But thanks for the advice about ProQuest etc. It's a pity I'm not actually in Adelaide atm so I can't access the library. But oh well. Professional Ethics is only an elective subject for me (I'm studying 2nd year med).

Dolwz, you could include something about the Spaceshuttle that blew up as well. It kind of relates, except the whistle blower was supressed until, cabam, bye bye space shuttle.

Yah I read about that. Similiar story to the above. A guy in the engineering firm said you shouldn't launch it at low temperatures, his manager didn't pass it on, NASA did the launch and then they had the "slight technical problem".

although after the "incident" - NASA now stands for Need Another Seven Astronauts

i studied for all 6 of my hsc exams in 5 days, and look how i turned out....

ok so not very well, but getting started is the hardest part, once u do, ur in the zone!!!!

There's also the case on the exploding Ford. I can't remember what model it was, but there was a glitch in the fuel tank, whereby a slight rear end accident would cause a rupture and it would explode. Ford ran a test to decide whether a recall would be economically viable compared to the number of accidents that would occur and the payouts required from explosions. They decided that it would be financially cheaper to keep the car on the market, so..... KABOOM again and again.

Not really about whistle blowers as such, although it has a lot to do with business ethics

Yup, that was the Ford Pinto Case. Worked out that it would be cheaper settling the number of suits than it would be to make the necessary modifications. In the end it cost them $50million in suits and saved them only $20.9million. So I guess they (rightfully) got screwed over.
