Regarding djm 600
Hi. Got my djm 600 today and I`ve got a question. Should I connect my intergrated-amp into the booth or master on the mixer? If I connect into the master ... the volume is just TOO loud .. when I slide master from 0 - 1 I get way to much sound. If I use booth, I have to turn the booth monitor know way down to be able to have my volume-sliders at 10 where I want them when mixing. I noticed I have a screw on the back of my mixer regulating the input-level .. but I haven`t had the guts to fiddle with it yet .. wanted to know what you think. Should I find a screwdriver or something and start fucking with a brand new mixer? HMmmm ... help me out here ...

connect it to the master......
if its too loud.........turn it down
its not very hard.....just slide the master volume down
please dont open it because u'll void the warranty
Hmm .. yeah, I know. But as the manual says .. there is a knob at the back .. that can be .. adjusted. It looks like a screw I guess .. can anyone confirm this? I won`t be opening the mixer .. just screw a little on this screw ... need some help to figure out why everything comes out so god damn loud ...
you didn`t quite get me liquid .. it`s so high on master I can`t put my master-slider all the way up to one .. that is TOO high !
hmmmmmmmmm........turn down all your gains and try again
im gonna look at my djm600
brb
ok .. status when I use Master ... I can have my master slider at one .. and my volume slider at one .. then It`s reasonable low. Only weird thing is that I don`t get any readings on my Master VU. Anyways, this seems kinda wrong. It is WAY to loud
you mean this thing

YEAH. That one ... because BOTH booth and master seems to be WAY to high .. at least I think so. Dunno why though. When I use booth it`s a little more controllable .. but I have to have my booth just 1 mark up if I want level 10 volume to sound ok low =\ Should I try to fiddle with that screw ( refered to as knob in the manual )
whats the manual say?
i dont see why not ........ just dont open it up
The screw on the back controlles the volume. I played around and found a good setting. Now .. more questions ( of course .. it`s me )
What does it matter if my master is high or low? And .. does it matter if my vu meter reaches red? Can`t find any info about it in the manual .. liquid, got any good stuff to say? =) Sorry for newbie-questions ...
DON'T DON'T.......NEVER DO THAT !!!
hey Ather ... I DID NOT OPEN MY MIXER. You must think I`m crazy. Just took a look in my manual and turned the knob on the back outside of the mixer. It will NOT void warranty .. just fix my problem with high sound =) Now answer my other questions please
Ok man, if you say so...
Cos I've got such friends who like open everything (open it actually and play with the tiny things inside..)
Of course that won't void the warranty...
And I'll try to answer your questions...
By the way, my name is spelled as A.H.T.E.R...
Cheers
Okay, first off, that attenuation screw is just for that purpose. (as a side note, the screw adjusts the output level, not the input level) Most bedroom djs never have to worry about this because most of them don't use amps (I'm assuming). They work off the amp in the receiver that they plug the rca cable into. It is definitly okay for you to use this screw to adjust the volume level so that (I would suggest anyway) you start hitting red on the master around 6-7 range. This is of course, with the gains on the channels adjusted so that you are right at or just above the 0dB level (oh so slightly into the red).
If you have the master volume at 6-7 and it starts to dip into the red, then you still have a little bit of leaway to turn it up more if you want, though I would just use the volume on your amp, speakers, receiver etc and not the mixer. Once you start hitting red on the LEDs, then you start distorting the source. This is bad. You can get away with hitting upt to about +4dB, but after that it may become noticable distortion, and when recording, I would try to preserve the original source as much as possible, so I wouldn't peak more than +2dB.
Now, as far as booth and master outputs go, it depends what you want from your setup and what you have. The master goes to the main house speakers, and the booth is for the dj monitors so that while mixing, the dj can adjust the volume of the speakers in front of him so he can adjust them to an appropriate level. You also have a record out. Guess what that is for
The record out is great because the master volume and master balance does not affect the record out volume levels. This way, if you have to turn the volume down at the speaker level, it won't dip on your recording etc. Anyway, tell me if this helps and if you need to know more
I`m just curious. When you mix ( people with djm 600 that is ) do you have the master turned up 100 %? Master does affect the headphone-cue on one of your ears ( at least mine do because I split them ) What I also like, and this could be a problem. I like to have my volume-sliders at 10, that way, when I`m bringing in a new track I can just slide my new song in fast as hell because I don`t have to worry about it hitting wrong volume ... if you get me. So my problem is .. I want to have sliders at 10, I need a good amount of master so I can hear both songs equally good in headphones .. AND last .. I don`t want to fuck the neighbours up completely =) Can this be done? I`ve fiddeled around with the screw on the back and I`ve lowered the volume some to access more master. Oh, and about those leds. Leds for channels seem to go up to +7 red .. and it seems rather fixed, in nothing I can do with it...Sorry If I`m confusing.
