Is it confirmed that Digweed's going to play again at the Mayan this Spring?

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Dec-29-2013 06:44:

i don't think Digweed will be back at the Mayan for a while.

so i'm a Digweed noob...can anyone tell me what i should expect from him in a 4 hour set? I've only seen him at festivals with 1 hour sets recently.

Will he play techno ala drumcode type of stuff in his set?

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Dec-31-2013 16:59:

expect the first hour to start off really slow. but if you're patient, you're going to hear dark progressive dance music. Shit that is out of this world.

If you are referring to his recent slot at Escape Wonderland, that was a sham and is a shameful way to experience a Digweed set (the sound was absolutely horrible there). You have to see this man in a club setting late-night, which you will tonight. He will probably play some Drumcode style techno tracks, considering the recent Bedrock releases from Harvey McKay & Carlo Lio - very Drumcodesque style. But just trust that whatever he plays...it'll be good.

Agreed the first hour or so might be a little slow, head-bobbing/swaying material (not the most conducive music if you are extremely drunk...or maybe it is?) but you'll quickly find yourself getting lost in his track selections, effects and most importantly his epic transitions. No other dude (IMO) comes close to piecing together a meaningful set that spans everything from building progressive house to banging techno to old school. Prepare for an awesome trip and expect to leave the club with the sun rising while questioning the meaning of life.

Obviously I'm a bit of a Diggers fanboy here so my opinions are very biased, but this guy has never let me down during an extended club set, especially the past few gigs at Exchange. Hopefully the drunk NYE crowd thins out quickly after he goes on.

pretty much this.
once you see digweed live you will biased for life. the man plays some of the best dance music around and is very serious about his passion of playing it to others.
seeing him in la + nye is a special occasion for digweed. so he really goes all out for it. expect a 10/10 set

Happy New Year! (you know where I'll be)

Claude is playing 11-1AM, so Digweed is most likely 1-5AM, hopefully 6.

review anyone?

Posted by in2muzikk on Jan-02-2014 08:07:

Digweed played a five-hour set from 1-6am, was heavily infused with many classic tracks that have still held the test of time and once again whipped the dance floor into a frenzy. I remember hearing Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" (was sure it was going to be "The Secret" by Joris Vorn at first since those two tracks share the same bass line), but nope! Also heard Underworld "Rez," X-Press 2 "Muzik Xpress" and some great instrumentals tracks that I can't ID.

Only thing is that I hadn't anticipated a set filled with so many classics. Guess I'm spoiled by Digweed's darker, progressive and more experimental sounds that get inside your head and make you go musically mad as mentioned earlier in this thread. Not that there weren't a good number of those, too, but the classics just took things in a different direction and then the last half hour was solid with the newer prog.

Last song, Digweed picked up the mic to share something with the (around half-full) dance floor but the mic was dead. The tech guy helped out, but that caused the sound cut out during a really awesome track. John played it up, laughed ("hey, wasn't me!") while trying that a few more times and the sound cut out every time. So was a bit anti-climactic not hearing him say goodbye, but we probably could have all written down on a piece of paper what he was going to say, turned it in, and would have been right. Something ala "So good to see you all again, there's a reason why I choose to spend NYE in LA and it's you, cheers!" After that, he threw on another track and we sang "Happy Birthday" to him before leaving.

I preferred his last tribal set at Exchange for track selection and flow, last night's set was great but just threw me off a bit. I guess it makes sense though, usually the music is a little different on NYE to expand the appeal to a wider variety of listeners. Was nice to see so many of the usual suspects as well: Hardcore Digweed fans who have shown up consistently over the years. You just know they're going to be there, and there they are!

great review!

Another fantastic set by Digweed for the books. Loads of classics as well as a lot of big tracks from 2013, some off the top of my head -

Guy Gerber & Clarian - Claire
Ame - Tatischeff
Mathew Jonson - Level 7 (Dixon Remix)
The xx - Tides (Dixon Edit)
Rokysopp - Running to the Sea (Pachanga Boys Remix)
Depeche Mode - Soothe My Soul (some crazy remix)

The last 2 hours were especially fantastic since the floor was completely thinned out at that point. Filled only w/ fans and clubbers really loving the music. Funny how the mic was malfunctioning at the end!

+1 on another great Digweed NYE. My only regret was not being able to stay until the very end since my friend wasn't feeling good and wanted to leave. Made it to 5:37 though
Digweed looked like he was having fun playing back in LA for NYE and I still love the massive LED wall at Exchange.

My favorite song of the night was Accadia - Into the Dawn.

Here are some others
