Just found this disc in storage and started listening to again and holly fuck
Golden years of Oakey :/
Has to be Oakenfold's best mix album, drops everything from prog to house to psy. Amazing composition through both discs.

Massively overrated, in my eyes. The first disc is a solid but unexceptional Cream-era trance set and that laughable transition into Greece 2000 near the end shows just how amateurish Oakenfold was even back then. I can't even listen to the second disc all the way through and I've tried several times. The first four tracks have absolutely nothing to do with each other, and then track five is Burning Flame and it's just such bullshit.
i just prefer creamfields 2004. also i never heard tranceport, you guys recommend?

Oslo was definitely the better Oakenfold GU.
I thought his last essential mix was pretty great. I'm going to see him live in a couple weeks, it should be fun.
My hair still looks like that picture, except it's blonde.
My first ever mix compilation, my introduction to both GU and Oakenfold. Yeah, the mixing is terrible but there are some good tunes on it (I actually like that "Burning Flame" song though :P)
The track is a bit naff but the problem is that it's five tracks in. After faffing around for so long to create an intro, he then goes straight into the most fist-pumpy track on the compilation. It's shit.

Nothing much to add here: Disc 1 of NY is pleasant, Disc 2 not so much, and Tranceport is awesome, despite its flaws.
imo, the touch (paul's remix) is the best track of GU007. dope as hell.

I remember looking at a copy of Tranceport in around 2002, the height of my Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, Armin phase and thinking even then that it looked a bit too 'anthem-y' for my tastes. I've still never listened to it.
I only remember tranceport for showing me the Sasha & the Light remix of Purple for the first time. Took me a couple of years to find out I prefer the original.
Wow 98 was a long time ago.
First time I heard Tranceport was at my senior prom. My friend had an afterparty, where another friend of mine (who was the one who really got me heavily into electronic dance music) brought the album over. I was familiar with trance but not that knowledgeable about it - I think right when "Cafe Del Mar" hit I became totally captured by the album. Then I bought the album and listened to it while driving up to Buffalo for my college orientation a few days later, playing Rendezvous on repeat.
I introduced all my new college friends to the album and shortly thereafter they all went out and bought Dave Ralph's Tranceport 2.
New York looks really good on paper but doesn't really deliver in the finished product. It's typical Oakie in the sense that it has a lot of great tracks from different genres and all piled into 1 huge train wreck of a set.
Tranceport was typical MOS "best of trance" type of a release and I'm not sure why people are comparing it to this GU. If anything, Oslo showed a more disciplined Oakie by trying to stay away from the hits and build a set made for a big room (I should add he does cover more ground in Oslo than in New York in terms of genres). That should be the comparison here.
I like the first disc. Not so much a fan of the second.
Still doesn't come close to touching Creamfields 2004, in my opinion.
Perhaps that's nostalgia talking, though. Or not.
just heard tranceport. the mixing is better than GU007, the track selection is good (so many anthems), but the sequence isn't too much special (as many said, anthem after anthem). still pretty funny imo, specially for me that never heard the "sasha v the light mix" of Purple.
and creamfields 2004 is awesome.
btw is so weird if you compare the transition into greece 2000 with the transition in GU007. is like if both cds were mixed by different people.
