Rasta

Yo yo Wim,

Another tune by Lightworks to add to the collection! Hmm, alright well this tune is really good, but not great.. kinda mediocre, your average good trance if you will... the quality is great (but then again you've never lacked in that department), but melody wise it isnt phenomenal, but still would keep me moving if I heard it in a club
but you know what, the more i listen to it the catchier it becomes... I especially like your bassline, not necessarily the synth or sound as much as the pattern um, i dunno what esle to comment on, wish I could help you in any improvements but aside from melody the tune is almost flawless in my opinion. Keep it up wim, and remeber to spend as much time as you can with each tune!

-Boy

have listened now and ive heard better stuff from you, the melody seems not to get that "ultra" feel from the notes, hard to discribe.
but otherwise its very good mate i like it alot!

Re: Uplifting Trance - please comment

thx for commenting people

boy trance : i did spend my precious time on this one... releasing a tune every now and then doesn't necessarily mean that I think... look at Airbase

cheers,
Wim/LW

hey wim

nice track!

tho i have 2 agree.. the melody is a bit simple.. ur tracks begin 2 sound a bit the same.. think of something much different.. and with some original sounds

well it sounds very profesional! u really gotta send some of ur stuff 2 labels

keep it up!

grtz,

DJ Mantis

ps. werk maar rustig door aan de melodie.. t heeft geen haast want ik heb ut ook errug druk

Posted by Icone on Oct-06-2002 21:09:

hey thx for the comments luuk/mantis!

well i hit the trance standard button with this one again i suppose... but what would the comments be when ferry himself made such a tune i sometimes wonder... ligaya was fairly standard as well imho... and even airbase tends to sound a bit the same as well i feel... so i thought why not

expect a new album with some different sounds soon... thoe are more darker and differently structured tracks i made over the last months (aug and sept).

cheers
Wim

anyone else wanna comment? i'm still wanting to make it sound better...

Posted by -AbsurD- on Oct-07-2002 15:58:

cheesy bassline bro....and also its hitting kinda to the right speaker all the time

the melody is pretty good at the beginnin', but it looses the power when it goes further.

also ...strings sound awesome as hell, but I would recommend u to make them softer... they kinda dark at this stage...

well... the track is pretty good, actually... nice work... reminds me of Rank 1 sometimes...

this is one of my fav trax in ur collection... i like it, it brings up the memories, from the days when I was into this kind of cheesy-ish trance... its good...

I work with a few djs/producers, and currently into music production also, after 3 years of djein', and years and years of electronic music experience... (yeah, i started listenin to this music, when Ace Of Base, and Dr. Alban just released their first albums, hehe... ) oh well... im not a very experienced producer yet, but a coupla of my trax went around a few clubs. So... what I wanna say is, dude... u gotta move to something more progressive, and new... uplifting trance is getting old... it is old, actually....

I didnt try to offense anyone, if I did... I appologize...

Great work, Lightworks .... quality work... =)

Make whatever music you feel like making, just be true to yourself...

sounds great Wim

Good production quality, but I don't like the melody. It just doesn't stir up emotions in me. Does it stir up emotions in you?

Posted by Icone on Oct-07-2002 18:26:

hey, thx for listening

AbsurD- the first time i posted the sample you didn't think it was cheesy though... well must be my bad hehe. uplifting trance is still alive i think. progressive trance has always been there as well, but more on the background (bonzai has lived for ages now in progressive trance). remember : no offence taken

quddha : i always make what i think sounds right, so... maybe that's a good thing?

dbl : thx mate, glad you liked it!

FuzzyGreen : well i do like it, i don't know if it's that emotional, but... my girlie thinks it is i don't know... perhaps it's a matter of taste this melody

thx for listening everyone,
take care,
Wim

the sample sounded not that cheesy =) coz it was probably short, and the chisiness couldnt hit u rite away...

well...bro... im not saying its bad, its awesome... quality work, and I like it, but i wouldnt spin it in the club... but...US is diff... u guyz like this stuff, but... its not for me anymore, if I hear ur production like 3 years ago, I would just flip out instantly... but not now...

BUT STILL! I never forget the music I used to listen to, and listen to it sometimes... but Im just into more serious stuff right now... =)))

iz all good bro! good work!

Posted by -AbsurD- on Oct-08-2002 02:01:

btw

I consider a lot of stuff as cheesy..lol... Im realy picky in music =))

and I DONT dont like cheesy stuff =)))) I do =) and I have respect for producers like u r

alrite, u probably tired of me spamin the forum =) Ill just leave =) lol

Posted by Icone on Oct-08-2002 11:40:

don't worry bout it

it's just that the word 'cheesy' in english gets that awkward feeling... a bit like 'uninteresting' or 'not real trance music'. in our popular language we call it somewhat 'commercieel', what means something as cheesy, but more in a commercial way... and that has been done before, i agree

but i have to say that there's still an awful lot of producers still producing this kind of trance... because it's perhaps one of the easiest ways to get noticed i don't know

and don't worry about replying too much, it's welcome.
cheers,
Wim/LW

yeah, u right, there a lot of producers makin this kind of music... and, yeah, its one of the easiest ways to get noticed, like u said....and also, this music is the easiest to make... well.. i tried to make, its easier, than makin deep trance, or breakbeat... u know...

I'd have to disagree... I do not believe that melodic trance is the easiest to make. Writing an original GOOD melody cannot be done by just anyone... like myself, I'm a big melodic trance fan, but I only REALLY REALLY like on average a new or two a month these days out of the amount of tunes that are being produced... Breakbeats n such follow a blueprint basically, and you assort the beats the way they should be, and add some sounds, effects, etc.. and presto... i guess it's just a matter of personal opinion, but I can't respect any tiype of tune without melody. And making good melodic trance isn't easy my friend.

Posted by -AbsurD- on Oct-08-2002 21:12:

oh yes it is lol =)))

and Hybrid kinda breakbeat is freakin hard to make... try it, and ull see...

Posted by -AbsurD- on Oct-08-2002 21:13:

to make a melody is not hard at all

Posted by 8Wonders on Oct-08-2002 21:36:

Mastered well as most of your tracks are but is pretty standard and generic, too boring imo.

You should spend some time making a really good melody rather than dishing out tracks every week.

As far as Airbase goes, I would disagree with your comment that his songs are all the same. He has a definite style just like Ferry does and Push does and you can recognize it immediately, but his tracks are definitely not "all the same".

Melodies dont take long to make but a good one does.

It's ALWAYS(!) hard to make something GOOD(!) no matter what genre! Period!

Now...

Just had a listen to it!
Intro is okey , the break started out good, but I think u should make the filterning of the synth a bit longer , and when the whole tune starts after the break if just feels abit empty , I was expecting something more powerfull, maybe more percussions would do the trick.

I dig the melody tho , like the chord changes!

I liked the remix u posted last week more then this! that track was the bomb!!!!

Um I do make breaks as well man... i incorporate breaks into my tunes all the time... i think the greatest combination ever is breaks n trance... but robstar is right, making ANYTHING good, is hard... im curious as to what your music sounds like...
