vocals or not?

which do you think is better, trance with vocals or trance without. i mean not just someone saying something in the back round. but like it kinda has a song into, but mainly the back up part of it. like just the same couple of phrases repeated. to me, with good synths, bass line and vocals like this make perfect trance to me. thats why im so obbessed with dj tiesto cuz he used alot them. i was a bit dissappoint with the lack of vocals in trance port by oakenfold. but man, that stuff is reallly nice.

Posted by logik on Oct-07-2002 01:35:

dont get me wrong, i do really like trance without any words, and some of my favorites dont, but on a CD vocals is an absolute MUST for me.

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Oct-07-2002 01:40:

depends on the choon. i like both. sometimes female vocals own me...other times, i wanna just go all out non-vocal. but this week i've been listenin' to more vocal tracks.

conjure one ft. sinead o'connor - tears from the moon (hybrid twisted on the terrance mix)

OMFG......*melts*

I agree with Linx - there is no universal rule, it just depends on the particular song. There are lots of vocal songs that I like, and lots of purely instrumental ones, too.

I prefer dubs usually. Rarely like vocals in a track.

Posted by eye_03 on Oct-07-2002 01:51:

i am also a person who is not a huge fan of vocals..

but occasionally, i will like tracks like the Tiesto remix of Silence, and Open Your Eyes by Nalin and Kane.

there we go .

Posted by estes on Oct-07-2002 02:17:

it definitely depends on the tune. some songs i feel ruin the song (*ahem* virus - hypnotise), yet others make it. another thing is, i feel that it depends on the mood i am in. for example, i have a certain perception of what is cheesy trance which i can't stand. but there are a few songs that have caught me in a particular state which just hit me the right and caused me to like them because of a particular situation. now if i heard these same songs in a different mood etc. i probably would associate them with the same songs i dislike. so i guess it depends on a number of factors.

i particularly like the soft female vocals...to me if they are done right its the best trance

i prefer no vocals. However some songs are awesome with vocals. As long as they arnt too cheesy.

Posted by DJ Logix on Oct-07-2002 03:30:

Dubs like DJ Mikey Mike said

I love dubs too but i also like vocals. I know one dub i loved finally herd the vocal cut and it was pure shit and that was Amoebaassassin - Pusher.

Posted by Trance-Canada on Oct-07-2002 03:34:

welll I love vocals but trance should be with out them :| well there are songs that sound good withem and some that dont.

Posted by Pheobius on Oct-07-2002 07:57:

dumonde rock, they have vocals, but generally i much prefer without

Think that best somes up my opinion of the question posed. But, some trance-vocal-tracks, I could easily die and go to heaven with.

Vocals sometimes really add something more to a track.
More emotion...

Yeah that's true, but you see most vocals are cheesy nowadays

This is true, but then you have stuff like the Conjure One song "Tears from the Moon."

Posted by Kirby on Oct-07-2002 14:03:

I don't really like too much vocal presence in trance, such as if the featured vocal sample of the song (like a male voice saying one or two words, or a phrase, for example) is used too many times it loses its weight. However, if the vocals consist of a very non-imposing, soft female high voice then I think it goes very well. Some voices don't fit in as well, but in other specific examples such as 'Into the sea' by CJ Stone and 'Turn the tide' by Sylver I think it goes so well that these are the songs that become my favorites.

Posted by Hell_Copter on Oct-08-2002 14:01:

it depends...
some tracks sux big time without the vocals and some tracks which have vocals needs an immediate dub
i like both...
sometimes vocals is nicer cause you can sing along

Posted by NetX on Oct-08-2002 14:57:

sometimes yes, but mostly I think they are cheesy. Some exceptions, of course, but you only can take that much Southern Sun or MindCircus

True, the vocals in southern sun really aren't all that great. I don't hate them, but it's not a track I keep on repeat.

i disagree...
Southern sun's Voclas are what make the track to be that good...
without them i don't want to hear it... awesome vocals... a must on this track

Dancing Dude

most vocals sound good........so i prefer vocal trance, but only if the vocal fits the tune............if not then a dub can sound better

i like trance with or with out vocal, the vocal is a added bonus

agreed, without the vocal this track would be nish!!!!!!!!!

I prefer dub versions, but there are some good vocal tunes which I love (BT - Dreaming).

Posted by Strike on Oct-08-2002 17:54:

for me
it solely depends on the tracks
i'm not a huge fan of male vocals tho

but i guess
with a song like
Symphony Of Strings - Don't Want Your Love (4 Strings Vocal Remix)
or
Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Armin van Buuren Vocal Mix)
I much prefer the dub!!
but with songs like
Tiesto - In My Memory (Airwave Remix)
and
Oceanlab - Sky Falls Down
the vocals r necessary!

well i personally prefer the Donald & Giles Remix of this track... much better than all the new remixes... and it's a dub
but i'm getting addidcted to these vocals too... at first didn't like them at all.. cause the track sounds so different than the Donald & Giles Remix...
