PvD @ Space vs. Pure Trance @ Play

I'm having a tough time deciding which event I want to go to. I've always wanted to see Solarstone live and the lineup overall is pretty great, except that I will already be seeing Bryan Kearney and Guiseppe Ottaviani at Global Connection. PvD at space for NYE was fucking great and left me wanting more. He will also be playing "nearly the whole night" according to him in a video, which would be pretty cool. PvD is $30 and Pure Trance is $40. Thoughts?

Keep in mind my idea of REAL trance doesn't necessarily mean its what you think trance is. My idea of trance is anything that isn't infused with electro house or dubstep, which in my opinion is what is the current iteration of trance. That being said...

It's ultimately up to you man, but for me PVD is a huge bust if you want some real Trance. To be honest the last time I heard a full night of REAL trance was at Pure Trance last year during WMC. I went and saw PVD in Glasgow during my trip to Scotland but I wasn't really expecting much from the guy. Luckily Sneijder was on the ticket as well, but I was lucky enough that they had a side room full of local trance guys who were blasting high bpm sets the whole night. Glad that was there because as predicted PVD started off well but then relegated playing dubstep farts and electro house.

I may sound like I'm a nitpicky asshole but I find it hard to dance when one moment your going 130-40 bpms and all of a sudden the dj drops a song that is the equivalent of heavy metal headbanging music. It's like going to a classical music concert and then halfway through a song Pantera cuts in and starts playing.

Another thing to mention is that the Pure Trance party will more likely be more comfortable for dancing and won't feel like a sardine can and the crowd will probably be more friendly. Space on the other hand could be packed and usually during conference attracts some not so friendly people.

I'm also giving you this point of view from a person that is on the club floor, I know some people on here tend to disagree but they also don't tell you that they usually buy tables and thus their experience is much different than the general club goer.

TL;DR: I wouldn't go to a PVD show if you paid me.

It's funny because I was going to mention that the reason why I liked PvDs set during NYE so much was because the entire set was surprisingly darker and faster than usual -- a lot closer to real trance that one would expect. The BMP was thumping and there really wasn't that much cheese. If it wasn't for that set at NYE, I would'nt be having this dilemma right now. Actually, as a matter of fact, the last time I saw him before that, which was in Tally, I couldn't believe how hard he started dropping the 138 towards the end of the set. The bass was insane. Then again, this was only at the very end of his set.

Is there anyone that went to see PvD for NYE that can vouch for me?

Idk, I might just give Pure Trance the shot just because that's a once a year experience.

To the contrary, I had a horrible time at Pure Trance last WMC. Pvd all the way, but that's not saying much.

Posted by PaULiN0 on Mar-09-2014 22:42:

Was kristina sky there cuz i think she's good, she plays uplifting

Posted by chillenandy321 on Mar-09-2014 22:47:

Pure Trance Friday will be good only for Bryan Kearney and Guiseppe Ottaviani. PVD is very skeptical lately doing his shows.

Why the horrible time, if you don't mind me asking?

go to space but buy a terrace ticket that will get you access to the whole club. even if pvd sucks you'll have amazing music on the terrace and in the loft.

He doesn't like the uplifting sound, actually he hates it.

See I would love to think that PVD plays consistently the way you are saying Carpe, but I just can't. To be fair though the guy doesn't play Trance anyway, here's a quote of his "To be honest, I dont call my music trance music, I call it electronic music and its usually danceable." Which is great for him now because what is being labeled Trance music is just really electronic dance music. I do know someone on this forum that went to PVD on NYE and he said it was good but definitely not as good as some make it to be. Now when I saw PVD at Mansion in the fall of 2011 he blew me the fuck away. In fact it was a double header weekend, PVD played Friday and Armin played Saturday. PVD played a super trance set that night, while Armin was already beginning the cheeser that he is today.

Lastly, the way I see things (for me at least) is we live in Miami. Outside of conference you rarely, and by rarely I mean not at all, see Solarstone, Giuseppe, Kearney, Orkidea, and Kristina Sky. Unless you travel to shows extensively your trance selection in Miami is generally the same dj's year in and year out like Markus and a few others. PVD plays in Miami at least once or twice outside of conference, but again man its your money and your decision. You gotta be selfish in these situations because only you knows what will get you going at a party. If you loved PVD go there, you probably won't be disappointed.

I might just go to Pure Trance for the exact reason you stated -- it will be almost impossible to see them outside of conference.

The only thing is, though, would you say that seeing Kearney and Ottaviani twice in one week would be worth it? Since I'm already going to Global Connection.

Haha, do what makes you happy! I've never seen Kearney and Ottaviani always throws down, so in my opinion I wouldn't have that problem, but if you feel like your missing out on something else go for it. I would be at Pure Trance myself if it wasn't for the fact that it was going on at the same time as ENTER and its lineup is way to monstrous to pass up.

This.

With PVD, you at least have a POTENTIALLY phenomenal trance show. I mean, Pantone is right that I detest over-vocalized, sugary sappy uplifiting trance (I do enjoy some uplifting trance that's a little more subtle or techy) but if PvD plays anything like how he did at Governor's Island in NYC last summer (look up the vids) then you're in for something that you just can't get at Pure Trance.

Plus if PVD does suck, or surprise surprise you wanna keep the tunes and partying rolling right along, then you have the terrace and some of the best chilled out deep house DJs in the game with the Diynamic guys. Legendary banging techno will be happening courtesy of CLR in the Techno Loft. This is a no brainer. That night at Space is at worst the 2nd best party of the entire week, when you add up all the rooms and the diversity of sounds. If you're just 100% a trance guy though, then it makes sense to do Pure Trance for the aforementioned reasons by Pantone. Not gonna see those DJs too often outside of WMC.

Yss do pure trance or w/e makes you happy.

Posted by diabloargentino on Mar-10-2014 13:08:

go to space friday night - except at 5am on the terrace to catch the diynamic crew tear the club a new one. you'll be in for a treat .

Posted by hellosam on Mar-10-2014 16:54:

my 2 cents:

PvD was always lacking for me...then i went 2-3 years without seeing him. Saw him last month- phenomenal and wonderful trance. So i have very high hopes. I think itll be similar (if not exactly the same- re: teaser for miami)

That said, Pure Trance is NEVER a let down. And sadly, Kristina is my top on the list, but shes not on the yacht- only playing friday night.

SO...what am i doing? (I have tickets for everything just in case tho! LOL)

Kristina has a pool party Thurs, and a free party wed night....so im doing those, and going to PvD. Then trying to make it to pure trance yacht.

This way I get pure trance, kristina....ANNND a long ass PvD set.

On paper...looks great.

Well see where reality takes my old Ass....

OOOO

and to this i would say- GO will probably play a different set for GC due to the company he is keeping here...140 harder darker mingled with his own vocals....

Pure Trance will be slower uplitfing stuff to keep a nice neighbor residency on the Pure Trance line

This thread is funny.

Here's my vote:

Pure Trance until 3am or so, then beat the crowd to space to catch the last couple hours of PVD and enjoy the terrace into the morning. Although, with this option you might miss out on Solarstone, my personal favorite trance dj.

Better option:
Pure Trance until 3am or so and then expand your horizons by walking into the madness that will be ENTER. Rest on saturday and then hop aboard the PVD yacht.. Boat parties ftw during wmc, and PVD is playing a long set there, too. This will give you the best of all worlds, imo.

Ahhhh, decisions, decisions! I would love to attend one of the yatch parties on Saturday to compensate, but I will be going to Ultra that day.

Went to the Pure Trance last year, will probably go to space this year.
At least you have multiple rooms and you can change if the music is not good inside.
