Berlin's Best Techno

Making the pilgrimage to Berlin in about a month. Although I have a decent amount of good techno from the city, there's always plenty more out there I'd like to listen to and bring with me on my trip. Who better to ask than the elitists on TA

Tracks, sets, whatever. What's some of your favorite Berlin techno?

DJ.Ungle Fever, Acid Orange, XXC3, Praxis, V-Records Berlin, Tresor, Kanzleramt.

Dr Motte's Loveparade 2000 set will forever be imprinted in my mind as one of the best sets of any genre of all time.

The Advent - Motor Club Detroit 1998

The Best of Advent. Hard Techno at its finest. Its sad that this is the best quality you can get.... (Mic Recording) Very German if you ask me!

Great stuff right there. Keeping the true techno vibe, love those hats!

Roughly scrolled through the label, not bad at all i would say

nice one woony - liking mike dehnert's stuff at the moment

Woony that sound is like toilet paper I'm hoping you dont regret it all in a few years.

There's a lot of tribal I bought around 2004 that I would gladly give away if I could find someone who wanted it.

I think this stuff will stand the test of time a little better than that early 2000's tribal

Some of these tracks are 6-7 years old now, at what point do you think they will sound dated?

I remember you saying in 2009 how Ostgut records will end up in the $3 bin in a few years but it's now 5 years later and they're still going as strong as ever.

Yea I definitely did say that about Ostgut. I dunno it just bores me I guess. I mean, it is some powerful shit and I would totally rock out to it in a club. It just doesnt hold my attention for very long. I guess I'm just not a straight up techno person.

My favorite track ever on Ostgut is the Levon Vincent record and that's more house than it is techno. Also like Steffi - Sadness a lot. But the loopy bangers....ehhh I know better than to buy them now because they just collect dust

Posted by Adam420 on Mar-25-2014 02:26:

yea but mark those records are made for playing, not for listening

Good point. I hardly ever mix anymore. I just drop the needle and go about whatever else I'm doing in my living room.

Posted by Adam420 on Mar-25-2014 03:26:

they are fucking fun to play man. I don't have a chance to play my techno records out often but when I do I know why I bought them.

this song always finds its way onto my playlists or if i get an extra few tracks this one comes up

If you're looking for the full techno package, I recommend friday @ Stattbad Wedding, saturday @ Tresor and sunday @ Berghain (it's the week after the innervisions night so probably not very packed)

Thanks for the recommends, guys! As expected, stellar stuff.

Keep 'em coming

EDIT: Woony, any recommends for the April 24-28 weekend in Berlin?

So far, I'd like to attend the Vitamin event at Watergate on the 25th, Sven at Watergate on the 26th, and Klubnacht on the 27th until I die.

Anything else you know of going on that I might be interested in otherwise? I'd like to visit Tresor, too.

I can see why you'd want to see May and Sven but I wouldn't recommend going to Watergate twice. It's generally a bit more posh than the other techno clubs in the city and more like a club you'd find in any other city (the location is quite cool though!). Not that you can't have a good party there but I think you'd get a more unique experience by going to something like Tresor. Tresor looks pretty decent on friday. About Blank is having their birthday party that weekend so that should be a pretty good alternative as well (although it might get pretty packed). Stattbad on saturday looks decent as well and if you like dub techno there's the Fluxion release party at Suicide Circus on friday. Klubnacht on sunday looks pretty sexy obviously, especially if Don Williams is playing.

Tresor's the one 'where it all began', right?
