The greatest Trance track ever?

I don't particularly like making these kind of threads, but I must say that I recently came across what might be arguably the best Trance production I've ever heard.

The overall rating on Discogs is the highest that I can recall for a Trance record.

What do you guys think? Better than Cosmic Love?

Posted by rubez on Apr-08-2014 19:49:

simple, effective, raw, charming.

Posted by Trance-M on Apr-08-2014 20:01:

Well, greatest, or maybe most beautiful?

Long ago..., I got it in 1995 on Hypnotrance 2

First track on that compilation is another great/beautiful one: Degeneration - Una Musica Senza Ritmo

To be clear, the track at the video is Mystic Force - Mystic Force of the vinyl Mystic Force - Psychic Harmony and on that there also is a track called Mystic Force - Mystic Force (Psychic Harmony Remix).
Well at least its not confusing at all

It's very difficult for me to pick a greatest one, but a hardtrancer would be on my top 3 as well.

I think there has been a similar thread as I remember mentioning:

Trancemaster 8 (1994) which contains the beautiful Traumatic - Tribal Symphony and maybe the greatest of all: Silicum - Spirit Of Ankh

Very nice tune indeed. Don't think I could say what my all time favorite is...my collection spans several thousand songs of various styles from more than a decade, so I'd never be able to pick just one.
As for the high rating, this is a common thing on Discogs, people rating the releases more than once to boost or lower the overall score. For example, TimaMachine rated this 5 times. A lot of people are rating it 3-4 times. I don't trust Discogs scores for anything more than a ballpark figure of how people feel.
Good track though.

The breakdown in Hope is indeed special, love both those tunes

Have a listen to my eternal sound and hypnotic dreams mixes in my sig pal if you like those 2 tunes, over 10 years old and just done old skool way 1210's and a mixer but they are very much in that style, think new york FM is in one of them.
Not plugging anything etc as I stopped spinning 6/7 years ago really, just putting some of my old mixes out there.

i will

loving that original post, great track.

i don't know about others, but i actually prefer my music a little more raw like that. keep it simple, keep it raw as rubez said.

i've said for a while that Cygnus X - Positron (Original Mix) is my fav pure trance song so i'll post that up although i assume everyone knows that one already...

Posted by Icesotope on Apr-09-2014 02:50:

Its just so hard to come to a conclusion on which is the "Greatest Trance Track Ever" I mean every track there is back then is so uniquely different from one-another.

If i really have to chose it would be...

BPC is by far one of the legendary names in the Trance scene. It never fails to amaze me ever..

Greece 2000?

That or cafe del mar

Posted by rubez on Apr-09-2014 08:52:

i've always had this at the top of my list. ferry dials back the cheese of the original and makes a subtle hymn out of it, with frenzied, spangled stabs of synth, sublime.

Posted by kosmotika on Apr-09-2014 09:39:

After some consideration, I'd have to say for me, off the top of my head, I'd have to say my all time favorite is Space Frog - Lost In Space (Cet Merlin Mix)

Posted by Greeny1210 on Apr-09-2014 21:31:

could also make a case for

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Apr-10-2014 13:44:

ya i was gonna list that one but the production i kinda , well i guess that the ones i picked , i can't find fault. I don't really like them that much but they stick out as perfectly balanced.

Posted by Scoops on Apr-10-2014 14:06:

I'm biased cause I think this one always overlooked

you can really feel it with the breakdown/ build-up

Posted by Light The Fuse on Apr-10-2014 15:41:

impossible task.

anyway this one is overlooked - so plain and ugly and yet i dunno it just goes sideways and rocks.

well my shortlist of the greatest trance tracks ever in no order:

Paul van dyk - for an angel (e-werk club mix) = This was voted as the greatest trance track on trance.nu years ago if I can recall it correctly.

Energy 52 - Cafe del mar = my personal pick but still objectively a "greatest" candidate.

Robert Miles - Children = every dance fan knows or should know this track.

Age of love - the age of love (Jam & spoon watch out for stella mix) = some people think the original mix of age of love is the jam and spoon remix. it speaks about its greatness.

Rank 1 - Airwave = the impact it had when it came to dividing the trance community was unforgettable. People either loved it or hated it. You had one side that salivated over the huge anthem it was during the peak of trance and the other side that thought it was horrible and led the way for more tracks with cheesy supersaws.

This is a good one to be sure. The definitive Berlin sound of the late 90s.

Dunno if this means the original by Kid Paul or the Three-N-One mix. I myself am partial to the Oliver Lieb mix and Three N One 2002 update.

What an iconic track, this one set up an entirely new genre by itself, paving the way for acts like Zhivago and DJ Dado. Unfortunately, this sound was retired within a couple years.

This one has a really nice "dark" feel to it that was commonplace in the very early primitive years of trance. I personally think Brainbug's mix is the best version of this one however.

I have a love/hate relationship with this one. Myself, I prefer the Rank 1 vs Dutch Force mix...sounds more like your typical Rank 1 track and replaces those (in my opinion) fairly unpleasant saw strings.

I hope it wasn't ,cause I never liked it a lot.

I think this is a good list: http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pag...dance-tran.html

First Rebirth imo caused the biggest "WTF is this? Amazing" when heard for the first time in the 90's. At least to me it did, closely followed by Follow Me. Loops and Tings however was far more popular as hardtrancer.

Three-N-One for sure I would say.

Three-N-One mix. it's the most popular version of cafe del mar but yes, I should've specified my pick.

it was definitely a dark horse in my shortlist. I have nothing against anyone who says it's a terrible track, but I also think it's a very impactful track.

Yeah, this is definitely up there for me. I'm going through a real anti-trance phase right now, but this possesses the kind of simple, elegant beauty that most trance records simply lack.
