Teach An Old Yogi Some New Tricks - My Indiegogo Campaign!

I don't know how many of you are into yoga, shiatsu, and the like, but I figured I'd share this with TOTA anyway, even if it's just to show off my handiwork.

I've started an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for my upcoming yoga teacher training certification, at Toronto's Octopus Garden. I've been slaving away at this since December, and yesterday was the official launch.

I've put together a pretty cool list of perks, ranging from the affordable (discounted yoga classes and shiatsu massage treatments), to one or two for the big spenders (yoga, dinner & DJ/dance package!). There's also an office perk (chair massage) available, in case you want to get your workplace on board.

The campaign page is here, and if you'd like to follow my progress leading up to and during the course, I've also started a Facebook Page.

If you can train me to suck my own dick, I may possibly be interested.

Sadly, there's no Will Ferrell component to the course I'm taking...

Update Numero Uno

After a rousing start out of the gate, my campaign went quiet for a few days, before jumping an amazing 6% this afternoon. This is partially due to the addition of 5 new perks, which raises the total number on offer from 12 to 17!

I added these new ones after a donator pointed out to me that Indiegogo doesn't provide the option to purchase multiples of a given perk. Shiatsu Ahhh... is now available in double, triple, and quad-pack form, and there are now 5 and 10-pack versions of Bend Me, Shape Me - Early Bird, as well.

Today, I'm wrapping up an email interview with a client/student/neighbour of mine who runs a community-centred blog with her partner. It should be posted by the weekend. I was feeling a bit rundown last week and had to waylay the planned video updates, but now that I'm rested and energised again, expect to see some soon!

Thanks for tuning in, and props to everyone for the continued support!

(Props, get it? )

My Featured Perk for this week: Shiatsu Ahhh...Office Edition

Last year, I invested in a super-comfortable Portal Pro massage chair. I've designed this perk around the chair, with you and your office-mates enjoying relaxing, tension melting, 20-minute shiatsu treatments that will leave you grateful for having come into work. This perk also makes for an awesome treat at your corporate event or team-building function.

I'm new to reddit, and it's a fascinating place. I put my Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana B(each) pic on Imgur and posted it to /r/yoga, endeavouring to draw some attention to my campaign (linking directly to crowdfunding websites is not permitted). 2 days later, and it's received nearly 7,000 views. (I'd love it if my DJ sets garnered that much attention. ) Props to my wife, for snapping such an attention-grabbing shot!

Thanks to a wonderful in-law and her family, I'm now at $615. Still a long way to get to $3800, but I have some craftiness up my sleeve that should drum (*hint*) up some more interest.

You can help, too! Please share my campaign, and join the FB page - the more of you on board, the more infective the buzz!

For the West-Siders!

My campaign is now 26 days in, leaving 19 to go. I'm elated at the $715 of contributions I've received to date - the generosity and support has been truly inspiring.

I have two fun events planned for the June 21/22 weekend to help boost support. If you're in and around the west end, join us, have fun, meet the neighbours and celebrate life!

Oh, and I totally forgot to mention that I've been blogged! The last time someone interviewed me, it was about DJing and the rave/nightclub scene. Over a decade later, this time the Q&A pertains to my current lifestyle, which has me rising at the same time as when I regularly used to go to bed!

Thanks to Sarah Harrison, community activist, a university professor who teaches vital courses on poverty and homelessness, and a longstanding client of mine, for suggesting this and for making time in her busy schedule to put it all together.

It's a personal and entirely Toronto-based campaign. I've updated it usually not more than once a week, as I don't want to be overly obtrusive - if its presence still offends you, you certainly don't have to follow or post in it. Swamper has already moderated this thread for me at my request, and he doesn't seem to have an issue with its existence.

Seeing as I've been a regular poster on this board for the past 6 years, why not cut me a little slack? It's not like I'm hawking firearms or bootleg Kinder Toys. This is wholesome, healthful stuff, right here.

If I answer either yes or no, then I've indicated that I've made an attempt. So...sneh.

Not me:

I think you're on to something here, why suck your own D when you can rim yourself?

This, of course, is the natural response to finding out that one's crowdfunding campaign has topped the $1000 mark:

...and with two weeks still to go - amazing!

I'm planning on borrowing my neighbour's extra-long ethernet cable so that we can live stream this weekend's outdoor DJ set (see the flyer a couple of posts up). Fellow TA malcolm33 will be joining me on the ones and twos, as we wade into the deep and funky end of the pool. I would love to see a group of friends pool their resources to nab either Yoga, Sound & Rhythm or THE BIG TICKET - hopefully, we'll pique some interest with the broadcast.

A reminder that we'll be going live tomorrow afternoon, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., in support of my Indiegogo campaign - crates upon crates of deep & funky House, some Disco edits, maybe a little Freestyle... If you're out in the west end, stop by for some tunes, and fresh-made lemonade and iced tea. If you can't make it by, but want some virtual refreshments, we'll be streaming via Youtube:

Sunday = free yoga in the Humber Valley, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.!
