Trance in the car...

For all of us w/ spiffy cars....(or not, i dont even have one now)

What sort of audio setup do you have? I'm an avid tranceaddict and i've found that for trance.....you need to encompass a multitude of theories/ideas when it comes to encompassing ALL the frequencies of your fav. trance track.

I just grabbed a new sony deck and 10 disk changer off my friend last night for a steal ($200, mint condition ) and I am installing a 12" bandpass in the next week or so.(I have to make it first )
I installed my amp last night, and hopefully I'll have time to get the deck and changer in tonight before going out to hit the town.
It's been far too long since I have had a decent system in my car.. a few years or so. I can't wait.

I'm not trying to hate on hip hoppers but...I CAN'T STAND IT WHEN I HEAR AND SEE CARS ON THE STREET THAT RATTLE SO MUCH FROM THE DISTORTION OF THEIR SUBS!! It's disgusting!! jesus christ!

But yeah, high quality deck, I heard from my friend that

My friend has a 2 15inch ECLIPSE subs....the quaility and POWER that those subs deliver is amazing!! NO DISTORTION AT ALL!! not ghetto style but only "clear sound and bass"

so yeah..bottom line, don't be cheap on a nice deck and good quality subs if you want a good sound

I can't wait til the day that I speed down the road in my porsha with a nice sound system blasting trance tunes

^^^ nakamichi makes better at home audio the mobile... their decks are good, but not GREAT...

well, personally, i used to have audio system, but after having my car broken into and my stereo stolen 3, yes three, times, i finally learned my lesson and gave up on it...

anyway, last thing i had in there was:
2x12" Boston Acoustic subs
250 rms watt Rockfor Fosgate amp
then for mids and highs i had
2x5.25" components up-front (2 tweeters, 2 mid range, 2 x-overs)
+
2x6.5" components in the back (2 tweeters, 2 mid range, 2 x-overs)
and mids and highs were powered by 120 rms watt Carver amp

in a small car with great acoustics such as a CRX, the whole thing sounded sooooo good...

*sigh*

In my car, I have a JVC KDSH99 head unit (which reads mp3 cd's). A 12" JL sub in a bandpass box powered by a 400 W Legacy AMP (One of the better quality 'cheapy' brands). Then I have 2 6x9 Bostwick in the back, and 2 6" Bostwick's in the front powered by a 600 W Legacy amp.

I used to have an active crossover for the sub, but I found trance sounds better without it. (It's great for R&B Hiphop type bass, but trance is fast paced.) (Note, the amp has a low-pass filter on it, so it's theres technically still a crossover).

The Head unit has 3 sets of pre-outs, which is great, cuz it allows me to control the level of the sub right from the head unit. It also has a crossover built in, so I can adjust the frequency cutoff for the sub pre-outs.

Now I bought my amps about 6 or 7 years ago, and they've been in 4 cars up to now, so they definately last.

Hrm, I had a very hard time picking items for my audio system. In fact, i've been very reluctant to even bother with mobile audio as my main interest lies in the performance of my car and besides, nothing beats the sound of 8000rpm.

Here's something i've noticed. A 12" sub tends to linger longer in a beat...and given the average bpm of a trance song, i personally dont beleive a sub should linger. Keeping this in mind, i chose a simple,
yet effective 10" Pioneer Bandpass box w/ a 300w Mono Amp.

Another aspect was weight. It's a proven fact that the better the power to weight ratio of the, the quicker it is. I was and always have been against 2 subs. Regardless of size.

My Current Setup:

Sony MDX-6500 (MiniDisk)
OEM Pioneer 6x9s (for OEM, these are amazing!)
Pioneer 10" Bandpass
MEI Bridgeable 300w (mono) Amp

anyway... the best for trance music is a sub in ported box, PORTED, so it gets to breathe lots... now your bass will depend on the type of speaker you buy... different speakers give off different bass... like for example, bass produced by cervin wega speakers travels far and is boomy... boston acoustics on the other hand give off a tight and short, but penetrating bass...

i guess i should also point out it depends a lot on the card what type of box someone should go for... what car you got?

i play trance 24/7....whether it involves driving in the car...at school listening to the walkman....listening to mp3's from the computer or playing stuff on my stereo in my room....dun care....i just represent and play it loud.

hmmm, can't really get anything good new for that much... maybe a decent amp, that about it...

look at classifieds, maybe someone is selling their complete system with subs and amp...

you should go for a ported box with 2 subs, preferably 12"...

WITH YOUR CAR STEREO, MAKE SURE THE HIGH AND MID RANGE ARE LOUDER THAN THE BASS, NOTHING SOUNDS WORSE THAN TRANCE MELODIES DROWNED OUT BY BASS.

A 12" inch will outperform a 10" for sure when it comes to volume and 'depth' of the bass. What i was trying to say was that given my sitaution....wieght, money and value in mind, the 10" bandpass proved to satisfy all requirements! ...a sealed or poerted box would definately sound good, however....i'd have to go with a custom enclosure....and once you do that, there are chances it wont sound as good.

I drive a97 Prelude Type-S/SH (yes both), and being a sports coupe, trunks space is limited. I chose to retain as much trunk space as possible 'cuz i use it as a locker when im @ school The car weighs in just above 3000lbs and....its a serious factor when your a car nut like me. Fortunately....the 10" bandpass doesnt weight a ton and fits perfectly where i wanted it to in the trunk.
