Favorite original soundtracks...
And by soundtracks, I mean original scores, not the collection of already released music that has been used in association with the movie. It's a category of music I've thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated for as far back as I can remember, but it's only recently that I've begun to collect my favorite pieces and take note of my favorite composers. So what are yours ('electronic' or not)? Here's a couple of my own to get the ball rolling:
Pino Donaggio- 'Carrie,' 1976
Georges Delerue- 'Contempt,' 1962
Traffic
It's funny, because Traffic was one of those soundtracks that I remembered mainly because of the already released material that was on it (Brian Eno- An Ending).
my top 5 original Scores:
1. Conan the Barbarian
2. The Untouchables
3. Young Guns 2
4. Christine
5. Risky Business
Herrnann psycho
ateiner king kong
korngold - robyn hood
west side story although i dont know if that counts
Goldsith planet of the apes
WIllianms - starwars

One of my absolute favourites is the obscure and unused original score to Hellraiser, by Coil:
As legend has it, Clive Barker himself commissioned Coil to score the film. But the studio suits were so nauseated by the end product because it was so perfectly creepy, they opted to go with Christopher Young in commercial interest of the film.
And since I am already being a giant foggoth:
Annnnnnnd now SYSTEM-J has to go watch Aliens:
Also, obvs:
And in the interest of film scores whose composers' talents far exceeded that of the film, itself...
I love this soundtrack. Sets the mood of every moment in the movie perfectly.
heat. awesome film and instant classic... bonus points for moby god moving over the waters at the end.
nearly watched the facebook film because trent scored it, alas - didn't.
Trent and Atticus' work really was the best part of that film, if you ask me. Same goes for Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
has a sneaky listen to trent's facebook OST, love that creepy ambient stuff - his OST for the game quake was mindblowing at the time, and elevated the game to even greater heights...
for balls out AWESOME, wang chung in 'to live & die in LA' is unbeatable.
grissom in bad ass, actual good actor mode.
Hannibal, anyone?

just pure epicness
^Was watching Conan a couple nights ago, that might be my favorite as well.
Conan the Destroyer was an absolute low-blow to fans of the first film.
Clint Mansell
The Machine 2013
Last year's films about Hitchcock both featured outstanding scores, and here's Danny Elfman's for 'Hitchock.' Title track at 14:20
Commando
Horner who I guess you would know from everyone's fav titanic but made thst shakuhachi the defector sound when in a jungle amd things are tense and you need a sound to expres something is up. Bammmm. Like in the 80s .
Mostly entirely synths. 80s toms that Zimmer started using in the rock which is snother cool soundtrack .

well i didn't mention that one because , doesn't have the steel pan drums, was 5 years later and no not really the same score. Stylistically similar but that is like saying everything with an orchestra is the same which is generally true lately.
Horner does have a tendency to recycle his music. I kinda suspect he used up almost all his early ace material with Wrath Of Khan before settling into standard stuff later in the '80s. Probably figured doing a Star Trek film was going to be his only big score, so let it all hang out there.
Sorry, but I got to go with you on this one; Commando is the standard for an 80's score. The steel drums and how they're worked in to the cues are nothing short of genius. You know when you hear those staggered first notes, shit is about to go down. You could argue BHcop too, but that's just because the theme was so big, the working of the score is good but not consistent throughout the film.
My favs:
Goonies - Dave Grusin
Blade Runner - Vangelis
Once upon a time in the West - Morricone
I have a guilty pleasure of loving the Harryhausen scores. Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger has some truly genius character moments led by the score.
