Innervisions 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Cover

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-25-2014 23:33:

Ridiculous. The bubble just burst, I reckon.

Posted by corjay9 on Jul-25-2014 23:57:

wasssshshhhhhhhh, no way this gets released, thats horrible.

Posted by Woony on Jul-26-2014 00:21:

I hope you won't get a heart attack Corjay, but this thing already has been released What kills me the most is that they seem to be marketing this monstrosity with completely stone-faced earnest. I mean, even if the track wasn't hilariously awful, doing a deep-house cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit still would be utterly ridiculous.

Here's the official press blurp:
quote:
So lads here is the track you have been asking for monthsno it is not the dan droll remix but this howling track got the same amount of requests. Ry X as a Kurt Cobain crooner and Frankie with a great backing track turn this into an unbeatable combination.

I guess Phillip Sherburne sums it up nicely on Twitter...
quote:
In which the whole Berliner neo-prog deep-house open-air-anthem thing officially jumps the shark

Posted by corjay9 on Jul-26-2014 00:30:

wow.. just wow. I thought Frank and Dixon had better taste then that, this is atrocious. To follow up the Sailor & I with this crap?

Posted by MSZ on Jul-26-2014 00:30:

Releasing bootlegs eh, classy.

Posted by Floorfiller on Jul-26-2014 01:11:

needs more autotune

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-26-2014 01:13:

I feel this is an opportune moment to mention that I saw Ame and Dixon together back in April and they were fucking terrible.

Posted by wotyzoid on Jul-26-2014 01:45:

Thank god they didn't play this here in Brazil, at least not that I remember. And I would have remembered this tragedy up to a very specific point in the night.

Dixon slayed for a while, up until he started playing this "deep house" garbage sound. At that point I went outside for a smoke and only came back for Henrik.

Posted by Lews on Jul-26-2014 01:53:

It's quite impressive just how bad this is.

Posted by Sykonee on Jul-26-2014 02:17:

Trendwhoring Smells Like Teen Spirit? Adam Freeland pulls up in a car, glances out his window, and states, "It's been done."

Posted by r5a on Jul-26-2014 02:19:

its terrible the way it is now.

get a dub verison with a few tweaks here and there and you'd have a pretty decent track tho

thx 4 the post, buying

Posted by planetaryplayer on Jul-26-2014 04:09:

innervisions need to change name to intervention, as they need one for releasing this pile of boring flow-less crap with horrible vocals.a dub mix should be made with 10 minutes of pure silence

edit

Posted by montana on Jul-26-2014 06:45:

prior to listening i actually thought "hang on, this can't be that bad". then i pressed play and listened to rx y sing like he was struck with chronic constipation on top of a track that made it sound worse.

i know kurt cobain used a lot of heroin and valium during his day but my question is what drugs were rx y and frank wiederman on when they made this?

Did you hear about "Riogate"? This strategy paper of Innervisions' campaign with Addidas in Brazil got leaked. I mean, I knew that there was a lot of marketing BS in dance music but I didn't think that even the fucking selfies are deliberately manufactured

I should also mention, Dixon and one of the me guys did an interview/cover story in the german Groove mag a few months ago and Dixon especially came across like a fucking gigantic egomaniac. They basically talked endlessly about how they are such great naturally talented DJ gods and how every DJ that isn't them sucks and how 99% of DJs are shit (ie. everyone not them or their friends) and how if you don't fill certain arbitrary parameters of theirs, like how many old tracks to play, you've failed your job as a DJ and might as well retire. They also talked about how they are the ones keeping it real and Ibiza is too commercial and yada yada, which is of course complete BS if you look at things like that Addidas campaign. I guess their immense sucess in the last 1-2 years has just become too much and they are dissapearing up their own asshole.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-26-2014 12:17:

Yeah, I've heard him banging on in interviews about crowds not being open-minded enough to understand some of the strange tracks he plays, and the obvious response is: What the hell does Dixon play that's supposed to be so out there?

Posted by Dykes_on_Jay on Jul-26-2014 13:12:

I peed myself a bit while listening to this as well. I thought that K was out.

Posted by corjay9 on Jul-26-2014 13:40:

So I asked my buddy Michael Gracioppo who's been touring with Dixon and Frank all summer what the hell is up with this track, and it was a cover that Howling were doing live that had great crowd response? He didn't even know it was a cover, he saw them play it live in Paris and said it was dope, but... ughghhghhhhhhhhh I told him he better not play this out.

Woony that Adidas thing doesn't surprise me one bit, Dixon is a business man. Seems like everything he does is calculated, which is so fucking german of him hahaha. I imagine he put this out because he expects it to sell really well, which is a fucking shame cuz this shit is hacky as fuck. Who the fuck puts out a cover of Nirvana. Sad, really.

Posted by kosmotika on Jul-26-2014 14:04:

Dunno

I couldn't listen to more than maybe a minute of this...why's music gotta suck so hard now?

Posted by Vector A on Jul-26-2014 14:30:

Oh my...you can tell right away that it sucks but the full extent of it isn't apparent until the chorus.

Posted by Kilixpree on Jul-26-2014 15:15:

wtf the vocal @6:09 hahaha, even worse than me!!!
