perhaps moving to australia
oh a rather random note i might be coming to australia in february for school... im thinking melbourne (if there arent a lot of applicants from here). so, any advice/tips/info on stuff? is broadband readily available down there? also, im told the job market sucks and i have basically no chance of finding a part time job
any thoughts would be appreciated ^_^
broadband here is pretty sucky
u can get adsl most places, netspace adsl is pretty good at $99AUD or something, which since your from the us translates to around $54USD i think?
every isp is capped with dl/upload limit here..
and yes, the job market sucks
Perth is nice....
haha domo kun kicks ass
so do you know if most universities have broadband in the dorms? here its kind of standard but im not sure about other countries

U fail 2 mentiont that Melbourne is the most livable city in the world, plus its not that hard 2 fin a part time job just depends on what ure looking for.
P.S. u could always sell ure body on the streets lol
hey sothis! nice to hear your making a move to the lovly melbourne. definetly the best city in australia in terms of clubbing and nightlife (as i'm sure most fellow AUTA would agree!)
so what you looking at studing down here? your a computer specialist right? well there are heaps of jobs avialble for that as long as you have a good degree and know what your doing. anyway you'll be fine!

welcome to Oz! (getting in first
)
hehe .. aus rocks, unless u want trance DJs every night
but yeah, work isn't difficult to find if you're prepared to look..
It's pretty hard to get into Australia these days. Your best bet is to find someone in the Indonesia region with a good boat. It will cost a few hundred dollars from there, then you treck inland on foot through western Australia.
This seems to be the standard method lately
It's not THAT hard to find work... just gotta look... and not be too picky...
yeah, seriously, a part time job whilst in Uni is not hard to find at all.
Melbourne rocks.
Once you graduate you could go for honours, but either way a 'carrer job' is not that hard to come buy.
I completely disagree with work being easy to find.... I been in Brisie for good 3-4 months and have found jack..... While in school you can only work 20 hours a week to start with..... found a couple that pay under the table but they were slave labor rates.... I probably put out 30-40 resumes and got one call back..... Now I work at a hotel bar and get 10 hours a week..... uggg..... well enough of my boo hoo hooing and if anyone has any jobs available send me a pm
Here is a funny one: I went up to Bundy for a while thinking to make a little cash picking fruit..... dumbest idea I ever had ... but at least it makes me laugh
Oh one other note: my building like 4 guys looked for work.... I was the only one to really find anything... yet out of the 6 girls who looked 3 found stuff.... one of which I was with when we went to the place and he said "got two positions that just opened... this will work out perfect"..... 3 hours later she got a call... I got nada.... I just aint as cute I guess..
Depends on what kinda job you're looking for I suppose.
I didn't really start looking for a job until I got outta school, but then I sent out like 6 resume's once I'd finished and walked into a casual job at a Shell servo without any real effort and despite having no prior experience. But then, I suppose when you have the sort of magnetic charm that I do, these things tend happen.
But from memory sothis, you're quite good with computers? I'm currently doing a business/IT degree at a mediocre uni (though it's arguably the best IT coruse that this uni does) and half the people in my course already have part time jobs in IT firms, despite the fact that we've only finished 3 of 6 semesters so far. My mate in the course is currently working at a firm in the city doing tech-support, and they recently flew him up to the Sydney office for an interview for a $58,000 a year full-time job up there. The response, bearing in mind he's barely half way through his degree? He was over-qualified. They're flying him back up there to interview him for a higher position later this year.
So yeah, the jobs are there, it's just a case of finding them. And from memory, Victoria has the lowest u/e rate of any state? Which means that either there are more jobs here, are just that they're all taken now. Oh well, good luck either way, regardless of where you end up going. Most of the capital cities are nice enough places to live, so wherever you decide to stay you should enjoy it.
I found these pertinant to the discussion at hand.

heheheh
as far as jobs are concerned, you'd only be after a part time/casual job if you're at skool at the same time...?
you (hopefully) shouldnt have too much trouble finding a job then - plenty available in retail (if u have experience), nightfill...
have a look at www.jobsearch.gov.au
thats where i actually found my current part time job
