Aphex Twin announces new album

I suppose I'll be the one to make this thread:

Not surprising, especially after that rumor you stated a while back...still exciting though.

Thanks for the heads up.

Drat, and I thought seeing it all over twitter was the end of it. All I could think of was that comment you made that Syntonic is referencing, Jack.

About his divorce? The plot thickens in that regard. People have noticed that the last track in this possible tracklist is "Anastasia" spelled backwards, which seems to be the name of some 19 year old Russian photographer who's been doing some work for him. Midlife crisis, etc.

Posted by Sykonee on Aug-19-2014 19:21:

It would be hilarious - and totally in line with Ricky Da James' manifesto - if he releases Caustic Window as a bonus disc alongside whatever this turns out to be.

Hmmmm, wonder if he's strapped for cash? I've heard Warp's publishing is awful and they make very little money. They offered like, $250 total to this three-person band in NYC to open for Plaid lollll.

If he actually was strapped for cash, he'd just do some touring. Seriously, Aphex is someone that will find five-figure festival gigs all over the place in an instant if he wants to.

He's still contractually bound with Warp for like three more albums so it's not like has the choice to release anywhere else.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Aug-19-2014 20:59:

He played Glastonbury this summer and he reportedly charges 40,000 per hour for DJ gigs so I don't think he's living on baked beans just yet.

I don't know any facts, but I do kinda struggle to believe that Warp make very little money. They're one of the longest surviving electronic labels around, they have major distribution links and you can still find albums they put out 20 years ago in high street shops, so the back-catalogue alone must sell pretty healthily.

Probably true, I don't know anything. Just had some dude in Brooklyn complaining to me about them at one point. They are still huge and continue to suck up relevant artists when they can, so I'd imagine they are not exactly broke.

Boom, release date September 22.

Aphex obsessives will note the limited edition triple-vinyl version of the album, which is retailing at 250 and can only be bought by entering a ballot.

JFC.

Gonna pirate this one, boys.

Looking at the Bleep website, there's a regular vinyl release ($33) as well. Yeah, the limited edition's bullshit but who cares really. You're paying for the extra print, not for the music.

By the way, the german Groove mag just put up the english original version of their interview with Aphex from 2001 for the Drukqs release. It's pretty long and fairly interesting. Back then he said that Drukqs is going to be his last ever record for Warp but I guess 13 years is a long time to change anyone's mind.

Better be a lock of his hair with that edition.

Does'nt he DJ behind a wall so nobody can see him

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Aug-21-2014 22:30:

Never heard that one before. He did, however, once "perform" a DJ set by putting sandpaper under the needle whist putting a microphone in a blender to provide the beats.

Here's the official press release, and believe me it's worth reading.

Posted by Woony on Aug-25-2014 20:18:

So, apparently Aphex has a bunch of new interviews coming out soon. Seems like he has more material forthcoming as well.
