Party Hat Driving noobs

God, I'm still shaking...

A few moments ago, I was driving to pick up my brother at the mall. I got my licence last month, and haven't driven for the last 15 days. Anyway, while I was going to the mall, I had to cross a huge avenue and the engine of my beloved car just stalled right in the middle of the bloody avenue. I saw all those cars coming at 80 km/h and I just though "Oooops..." I don't know how, but after pressing every button on the panel, I turned the emergency light on and got the engine started... and caused a huge traffic jam .

Has anyone ever done something like this when learning to drive?

Yeah... I saw it once as well, but these aren't really my favourite memories, since the woman who was beside the driver had part of her body thrown out of the car and well, she ended under the car I wish this was the only bad accident I had seen, but there are a couple of more others

None of the stalling moments are good moments...

I crashed into a bus once.

It was almost a year ago when I'd had my licence for a month or two. The weather was freezing and the road was icey... I couldn't stop the car no matter what I did and... bang.

Luckily the speed was already so low at that point that all I broke was a hub cap.

i stalled once right in the middle of a pair or railroad tracks.. oops.. was during a driving lesson though

Oh yeah:

My friend had a driving lesson so I decided to go with him (he had the same instructor as me so it was cool).

Otherwise it all went fine except at one point my friend managed to go to the wrong side of the road and stall the car.
This itself wouldn't be so bad but we happened to stop right in front of an ambulance.

Luckily they weren't in a rush.

Had a car crash on the weekend actually...

turning right onto a double laned main road from a side st, there was a 4 wheel drive turning left into my street and another car in the second lane which i couldnt see cos my line of sight was blocked by the friggin 4 wheel drive
so yeah... i cross and the next thing i hear is a screeeeech and smash into the side of my car

since its my fault i have to pay the excess... $850

ahh...yes we've all been there. when i was first driving stick on a VW Jetta, i continuously stalled, probably about 2-3 times, when the light turned green for the left turn lane cars. it was on an uphill and the clutch was shit and i kept getting more and more nervous. everyone was honking like mad. finally got it back up and managed not to stall this time, made my left and gunned it trying to save the embarrassment. then the girl in the gti behind me just had to gun it with me so she can honk me again. lol

oh well...

hehe, I guess I was lucky. All that people yelled to me was: "Set this car on fire and let it be useful for a change"

i have never stalled a car but at a light this summer the light turned green and the lady in front of me didnt go, so i honked, and honked, so she got out of the car and yelled at me and told me her situation so i helped her move her car off the road because there was no way she could of done it herself in the middle of a busy day. She thanked me soon after and that was that, no big deal.

When I was learning to drive I was motoring around a parking lot and I almost hit another car. I slammed on my breaks and just missed the car, but my sister in the passenger seat wasnt wearing a seatbelt and her head slammed into the dash. I couldnt help but laugh, good thing she wasnt hurt tho.

I'll be a driving n00b soon. I'm going to get my permit on Thursday. Hopefully I'll be able to get my grandparents 1990 Acura Integra GS (I see you're an Acura fan MARK?).

what cars are you people driving through a driving school to get stalled? They usually check their cars regularly dont they? at least here they keep cars in pretty good condition. been driving for 3 years so far, no probs so far

just got my license a week ago...havent had any problems yet..hopefully i wont ever have any. i ty to drive reasonably..driving fast in my car (99 Ford Crown Victoria) isnt really fun...or safe for that matter.

I learned in a petrol but I would prolly stall one these days coz i've been driving a diesel since I passed and it gives you at least 10 seconds to drop the clutch or change gear before it conks out.

Posted by Lira on Oct-18-2002 02:08:

heh, I didn't know about this diesel thing

It was a brand new Mercedes-Benz (the A-series, can't remember the model number.)

The stalling had nothing to do with the car, though... if you can't use the clutch properly... well... then you're fucked
