Worm Popper Genre of the year.....

IMO Breakbeats!
Oakey had them in his sets, Zabiela makes em popular, Lavelle and Seaman fantastically mix them in their latest GUs, Sasha feaures them in his sets and Airdrawndagger is basically a breaks album.
New Stars like Layo and Bushwacka! and already widely known ones like Hybrid strike the scene with fabulous releases.

Any1 agrees? if not, which genre was in your opnion the most predominant/sensational/or just best in 2002 ?

I believe some people will say progressive as well. Actually, I'm out of this discussion, because I'm not really into breaks nor into prog...

Really good point. I agree with everything said here. Breakbeat has become big. Zabiela does it best IMO.

layo and bushwhacka suck.

Posted by butterfly on Oct-15-2002 20:47:

I LOVE BREAKBEATS!!!!

but i think in new york, we have been leaning toward tech as the most popular genre lately.

Posted by DJ Sunburn on Oct-15-2002 20:55:

either breakebeat or progressive. however i would definatly lean more towards progressive. This year alone the genre has gained phenomenal attention and growth of fans.

I have to say, But, 2002 was a huge year for progressive, lots of great progressive house and progressive trance tunes.

Posted by Cyberwoo on Oct-15-2002 23:02:

Progressive breaks.

Everyone has his/her own favourites

Please stop making senseless posts like this.. you'll never get anything but individual opinions

progressive yet again for a second year in a row. breaks seems like a nice thing too. Although i think james zabiela has more than just prog and breaks up his sleeves

Posted by TrAnCe CoNtRoL on Oct-16-2002 02:08:

funky progressive uplifting breakbeat trance. there. its done. we have summed it all up in a genre i just created. this arguement will never end as never will the 'best track of the year' threads.

Posted by IronDragon on Oct-16-2002 02:27:

ahem....

funky house

Cool I've Seen the Light

This year I finally woke up and got into prog with the help of the man-James Holden. I guess you can say he hasn't put out the light after all.
Prog has been huge, but then again, so has breaks and I gotta say they have both been quality. Look at Layo & Bushwacka, Sasha, Hybrid, Ashtrax, Koma & Bones on the breaks side. And then on the progressive side you've got tracks like : JH - Nothing, Main Element - Take Me Down, Sasha-Bloodlock & Wavy Gravy (Breaks/Prog), Junkie XL - Breezer, Mavi - Fallen, etc.

ketchup is the genre of the year

Posted by zarathustra on Oct-16-2002 02:57:

Close call for this year but I would like to see a new style emerge:

Progressive Happy-Hardcore

What would that be like? Prog pitched way up?

Posted by Izzy on Oct-16-2002 04:46:

i guess it depends on areas.... italy when i was there was huge on funky house... where im at breaks are huge, while the big cities have a lot of prog. but i guess in the big scheme of things breaks was tops eventhough i dont really like it at all

Posted by whitesmoke on Oct-16-2002 05:00:
