-- Attention Span
Attention Span
I was having this conversation with a friend the other day...he doesnt listen to trance. I offered him some tunes, which you know being around 7-9 min. long...he listens for about a min, then says sorry, i cant continue, my attention span is too short...
Then, this kid in my class tells me, elena you sit during class and just maintain your position throughout the whole hour and a half of class..Usually kids would shift, sleep, get up and stretch or just daze off...
I was thinking maybe this relatively longer att. span has to do with me taste in music...I mean you have to sit through the whole 10 min of a tune to experience the build up/breakdown etc etc...as oppposed to another type of song which usually lasts for about 3-4 min...
just a thought..

well, interesting, i cant do that in school, but anywhere else, i just dont move. i cant stand the rush in moving to much, maby thats why i dont go to these..excersise classes..(however you spell that)
2 words.... radio edits...
i think people get bored cause of the intro beats... just fast forward to the meat of the song and i'm sure they'll love it..
don't put them trough the intro/outro beats... that's only for the djs to hear, =P
I can't listen to a whole track either, I usually know instantly if I'm interested or not......usually I'll jump to the mid portion of the track, still not interested, then its out.........
Call me crazy, but I noticed the majority of asians aren't exactly the "figity", personality demonstrating, type.....(usually asian females) I too have noticed that quite a bit just stare, and their emotions look, almost, non existent. Same goes with asians (specifically females again) who drive. The majority of them look, almost uncomfortable, as they sit there, driving, staring completely on the road, in perfect posture, with no hint of facial expression, and two hands on the wheel...... I'm not just talking out of my ass either, I've noticed all this to be, almost factual, in my perception atleast.
odd........
hmmm maybe it's an asian thing then..
(i feel akward replying in me own thread since i dont post so often)
i have the attention span of a fish, it better be interesting or i dont care, i feel sorry for all my ex's
I have no problems listening to the whole track...I just put the track on and relax to listen the track...and sometimes I even close my eyes to hear the track better...

Yeah I think you really have to listen to the entire song to really experience it. But I don't have the attention span to do so, always just skip to the main chorus, takes to long to hear those boring parts
I was going to reply but my attention span isn't long enough for this thread.

^^^ lol
I know what you mean, Elena. Usually when I mix some trance tunes for my mates (including Asians
), I need to drop the intro beats or prepare an intro myself, otherwise, they won't really wait that long and they'll just stop the disc. Actually, the first thing I do when I get a new tune is to take it right to the build-ups and then, later (if I like it), I listen to the whole thing
.
well actually im asian....and i have the worst attention span. i can listen to music all day though, its not about attention when it comes to trance becuase, while people can say all they want that its repetitive, i think that trance changes so much.... the progression may be very subtle but i like subtle things so it makes such a world of difference to me.
i think this is becuase the music is so relaxing at the same time. when i mix in my dorm room... my roomate always falls asleep becuase its so relaxing.. he doesnt even listen to trance yet he enjoys it and finds it relaxing. ofcorse i could put in other songs that will wake him up but im usually chilled out.... doesnt really feel right to play something too upbeat at 3am in a very quiet single sex building : \
I feel the same way as some of ya'll do. I'm white but i mostly hang with the asian group because around here, they are really the only ones that listen to trance. Most people around the virginia area listen to rock or rap. A few years back i listened to rap more than trance but now its the other way around. I can't listen to a rap song repeatedly like a good trance song i can listen to forever it seems like. When i download something i do skip to the "good stuff" and then if i like it i'll listen to the whole thing. I think this is why some dj's make mixes is because they take out most of the intro and just mix the melody or meaty part of the song (watever you want to call it). I wish more people in my area listened to trance bc i hate it when people put it down and say it sounds gay or watever. They just don't know!
depends...
if the song is produced/mixed by a quality producer/mixer
(ie, mirco de govia, lange, l-vee, minimalistix)
then i give the song my full attention and listen to the whole thing
but if it's by somebody i don't know, then i only listen to the first minute and tune off
i have missed some quality tunes this way, only to have 'rediscovered' the songs on my hd months later
ie, Tillmann Urchmacher - On the Run (ocean 2 shore remix) -> how the fuck did i miss this one?
James Holden - Nothing (boring intro)
William Orbit - Adagio 4 Strings (strings dont' play until 3 min mark
eleeenaaaa... hope your exams r goin good!
PoRk OpPa!

well when im mixing in my room i have that problem. except i skip the buildups. I'll start a track, get teh next track up. beat match, then skip to the end of the song and mix, then get the next song beatmatch, move to the end of the song, mix in the new song etc.
wat?
