the first time i heard about PS2 remakes of FF7 was way back during the spring of 2001. at the time, squaresoft has denied any plans of remaking this classic. its almost into 2003, are you sure this is a reliable source you are hearing from? please post a link so i can see.

btw the ending was awesome if you ask me.

Posted by SlickT on Oct-17-2002 07:27:

I thought Squaresoft scraped the remakes because of how poorly the FF movie did? I loved FF7...fantastic game.

Posted by Shoes on Oct-17-2002 10:23:

It's just a rumour, I think. I haven't seen any official confirmation anywhere.

Posted by sothis on Oct-17-2002 16:09:

personally, i hate remakes.. unless the game is really, REALLY old and almost unplayable because of how primitive it is (im talkin like, King's Quest 1, not FF7).

i think old graphics are what makes the game great, since i love old school stuff. for example, my favorite console rpg ever, dragon warrior 4... got a remake so its all 3d and shit... i am so glad it didnt get released here, so people have to play the old looking version. i think it ruins part of a game's nostalgia and in general, the game itself, by remaking it so newer gamers who are used to fancy graphics wont complain about it so much.

i think theres nothing wrong with re-releasing a game on another system, so, for example, people who dont want to buy an old SNES and spend 50 bucks on FF6, can now play it on their PSX... or, id be fine with them adding the analog stick option to FF7 so you dont have to just use the 4 way arrow keys to run. but completely redoing a game for a younger generation? lame.

Posted by sothis on Oct-17-2002 16:11:

oh, and adding an alternate ending? have them just do it and download it... no need to play the entire game over again just to see a better (which hopefully it would be since the FF7 ending was garbage) ending. shit, when FFX got re-released in japan with that better ending, you didnt see me goin out and buying it so i could replay the whole thing.. i just downloaded the new ending and watched it.

no square officially announced it on ign.com a while ago

I highly encourage all of you who played FF7 (and may have not liked it) to read this article. Its long, but dont skim through it or you will have no fucking idea whats going on. Read it all, its an excellent read

WARNING: dont read it if you havent played through the game!

FFVII touches a level of depth in both its dramatic story telling and in its symbolism that has never been approached by another RPG. I've never played a video game which has challenged me more in it's requirement of the player to think about it's story in order to understand it. This is a very confusing story and I hope that I've done a good job of explaining the tale and its intriguing mythological basis.

sounds like a long and involved guess to me. i dont really buy it that they put THAT MUCH secrecy or mystery into a game.

regardless, the ending still sucked ass. if you pay 7 dollars to see a movie and it has an open ended ending, perhaps thats acceptable.

if i pay 50 dollars for a game that i spend 60+ hours on, on average, it isnt acceptable to have a stupid ending which explains nothing, and doesnt make sense (red 13 is the last of his kind, how could he have kids). we arent playing games on nintendo anymore, so short, dumb endings just dont cut it.

If I pay 50 bucks for a game and spend 60+ hours on it, I dont want linear story with a super happy ending that wraps everything up with a big bow. I like stories that really make you think and make you draw conclusions for yourself. Personal preference, I suppose. FF7 had a great backstory, but I agree the ending was a bit weak, but was sufficent.

Like many Square games...I'm sure FF7 was rushed too. Take Xenogears for example...that's pretty much the best storyline to a game that I've ever seen and almost all of the second disk is nothing but text and cutscenes..not really much gameplay.(No bashing me please, I love Xenogears lol) FF7 probably would have had a better ending if there wasn't such a demand for the game at the time.

ff9 is fun.

fanboys rejoice. FFVII-2 will be coming out. Lets hope it doesnt ruin the original.
