How about a review section revamp?

What would be really great for the forum IMO would be a revamp of the review section to pretty much make it like the one on psynews.org (except for all electronic music obviously). Essentially you'd not allow new threads that aren't reviews (in particular, no "out now" posts from labels) and you'd also split it into different sections for each year as a clear logical way to sort things. As it stands, looking at that section it's pretty dead and or full of somewhat uninteresting posts (I'm much more interested in reviews than an announcement that some unknown album is out). If this does happen I'd definitely participate and post some reviews.

It'd take 'round the clock moderation to stop the promo people spamming their shit. And I'm sure they'd just start posting banal "reviews" just to blurs the lines enough to get their press release included.

You could restrict it to people that only have 100 posts or more. Or alternatively have section specific mods whose only job it is to delete spam (and whose actions are reversible, which i believe might be hos it's setup currently). Really though all it would take would be a sticky stating the rules plus a mod sweeping through once a week. Also, you could have a specific section for announcements to tempt the promo people.

Even if regular TAs contributed, I can't see it gaining much traction. Back in the day, it seemed everyone wanted to share their thoughts on the Big Trance Releases. Now everyone's listening habits are so fractured, it's a near miracle if half-a-dozen TAs happen to hear the same release as soon as it's out.

And if they have, usually it gets talked about in MD anyway. If anything, the Reviews forum acts as a handy filter, keeping all the promo spam away from the MD!

Plenty of people are quite interested in the music that everyone plays in the dj promo forum though. I know personally I'd be quite interested in reading album reviews of various TAs. It's not like there's no common ground at all.

Mm, maybe. Hell, I'm already writing reviews daily as it is. I could always post some of them here too, if Swamper figures it might generate renewed interest and substantive discussion in that forum.

Wouldn't want to be a 'one-man' army on that front though. Would need a few contributors to get it thriving. J'....?

I've started a thread over in music discussion. If a revamp of the review section does happen (in particular, seperating new release promos from reviews would be a big help IMO) then it'll be easy to copy paste any reviews people make into threads.

All in all...totally doable if the moderatiom is there and moderatiom is in fact enforced.
