trancEaddict Mp3 DJ Mix Competition I - Finished, Congratz To WinnerZ

ok, im gonna help this get going by stickying it and advise if wanted, but if you want it to happen get posting to get it sorted, if you want any help feel free 2 pm me. good luck

her's all the info u lot will need:

Closing date for DJs: CLOSED
Closing date for mixes: CLOSED
Closing date for results: ANNOUNCED!

There will be no exceptions for DJ entry, however exceptions will be made if people are having problems uploading with slower connections. My suggestion is to send your mix to somebody with a fast connection for them to upload.

Mixes must be submitted in 160kbps Mp3 quality, CBR or VBR, no Mp3-Pro files are allowed.

Mixes must be 60 to 80 minutes in length

You may mix with:
1. Mp3s in Real Time

All DJs must state how they have made their set, ie which program used.

All mixes must be recorded live, no using multiple mixes and sticking the best transitions together.
You may plan and practise your mix, but not to the point that it becomes robotic.

All mixes must be uploaded with a tracklist, a cue sheet would also help. You may combine both into the cue sheet, but remember not all CD writers support that type of cue sheet so be careful when burning.

Contestants may not also be a judge, you have the choice to be either, not both.

You may not download other contestants mixes.

You must mix trance, this rule bends as far as progressive and hard trance. Contestants will be disqualified for extended use of non-trance music.

Mixes will be marked on the following categories:
a) Track selection and play order
b) Beat-matching
c) Transition harmonics
All sections contain 25 marks, no section is worth more than another.
A percentage will then be calculated from these three areas to give a better comparison.

You must actually mix to gain marks, snapping together of tunes is not allowed. That is not really DJing.

All judges will have to be appoved by me and will only be accepted as long as nobody else has any problems. Judges must take this duty to mix seriously. All mixes must be marked on skill and the way the contestant progresses their mix, NOT ON PERSONAL OPIONION OF THE CONTESTANT OR THE SONGS HE WISHES TO MIX. Although contestants must abide by the tracklist rules.

Judges and Administrators have the right to reserve and change/ammend these rules.

i wouldn't mind being a judge
i'd mix, but my computer is too slow for mixing mp3s

i'll judge if ppl don't mind

it shouldn;t be conflict of interest since i can't participate in this compo anyways

also, it should be worth mentioning that this compo as well as the other shouldn't overlap much, just to give those who participate (or judge) both some time to handle it.

Just one thing... I don't wanna participate but programs like AtomixMp3 or Traktor have auto bpm feature... so why is there a beatmatching mark? Maybe Auto Bpm shouldn't be allowed... but difficult to know if someone used this feature

good point, i was just thinking of that
either take away the beatmatching mark, or state in the rules that either auto bpm isn't used, or use a prg that doesn't have an auto bpm

It's blatanty obvious when people use these functions as they are incorrect as they count percussion as beats at times, and stuff I have been showed by DuMonde TrAnCeR proves the auto-lock gives wow and flutter to extremes.

It is obvious who the real DJs will be, judges that wish to query a mix can pm me and i will help give a decision if the mix is to be disqualified and deleted

hm so auto bpm will be banned? for what reason may I ask? I mean I could do well w/o autobpm (Ive treid my hands on real cds..) and beatmatching really isnt a problem. Problem is: find me a proggy which allows to RECORD & has all the good qualities(eqs, filters, loop possibilities) of TRAKTOR and doesant use autobpm.. there isnt any!

besides: the autobpm is pretty inaccurate anyway...

maybe there should be a stipulation about using a certain prog, just to level the playing field

traktor doesant have that function Ive searched for it before... Maybe traktor2 will have it..

well If everybody must use same software I suggest we all use traktor since its the best mp3mixer out there.. best filters, EQ-s, endless looping possibilities and an annoyng inaccurate autobpm too

anyway: I dont think that autobpm should be banned because inexperienced mixer will fuck up even with autobpm's.. and most importantly: Its how U use loops, filters & eqs that matters very much..

yeh traktor jsut fucks it up laods and atomixmp3 is a fucking joek it doesnt even match the beats

can i be a judge?

k im trying to use traktor without the spasticated beat thingy, so far kinda good! also i noticed sumtimes the record function doesnt record u correction too accuratly. heres my tracklist, if were not allowed to post them edit it

this may be/is a really stupid question

but how do you mix in real time? i use(d) acid 3.0. and to my knowledge, its impossible to beatmap and have the other stuff playing/recording at the same time on that program.

please teach the ignorant, as this is something i wouldnt mind participating in.
