Question

I've been argueing with my friends for months now about what will be the sound dominating the floors of nightclubs and festivals this year. I've argued with them that Trance will still be the music of nightclubs, but my friends argue that progressive house, and Hard House are the sound of this year? I would really like to hear other peoples views on this, because I hear all around me off people is that Trance will eventually be swallowed up by progressive House and other genres which I find untrue because Trance is a totally different sound, and has been a strong genre for three years now and i find it hard to think if its lasted this long the sound will die.

Tell your friends Hard House was the sound of 2000, however they are correct about Progressive. It seems alot of DJs are moving toward a more prog and tribal sound, whether it be progressive trance or progressive house.

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Apr-22-2001 21:25:

Nice 1 mate, that might be the answer I'm looking for to make the Hard House lot shut up!

Posted by trintiy on Apr-22-2001 21:38:

Yeah, have them pull out all the Mags from the past year, Mixmag, DJ, Ministry, Muzik and IDJ all dubbed 2000 as the year of Hard House..2001 is Prog and Tribal according to the so called experts.

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Apr-22-2001 21:41:

yep yep. prog is the direction trance is taking right now. not many uplifting/epic trackz deez days comin' out. though i think tech-trance is also slowly rearing its head up a bit more these days as well. who knows...

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Apr-22-2001 21:53:

Thumbs up

yeah Tech trance has been hitting scene hard with Mauro Picotto, and Mario Piu who I went to see last month and he was fucking brillant! I've read that Prog was the one to watch in them magazines, just look at Dj magazine for an instance theres always an artical on hybrid, Bedrock, or Deep Dish every week so it must be making some effect, Plus look at Djs like Seb Fontaine i remeber only 2 years ago he sounded very simular to Djs like Judge Jules, and Tall Paul now listen to his show on radio 1 its really progressive and tribal.

Posted by trintiy on Apr-22-2001 22:01:

Yeah, your right about Seb he really jumped on the Prog bandwagon, he was really trancey on his earlier Prototype CDs and his club play, now his entire Radio 1 show is Prog.
I also think it has alot to do with the age of the DJs, alot of the A-list DJs, are in their mid 30s, I think there musical taste are changing and that is causing the scene to shift. That's just my opinion, please no hate mail

No mate your right, look at how Djs like Sasha how he was around 1998 he was really trancey, Diggers aswell too, i think theres Djs though who created the sound like Danny Tenaglia,Pete Tong and Nick Warren who have been the key players in the prog sound. Seb has changed a lot I've got one of the earlier prototype Cds i thought that it was a really good CD.

trance mixed with breakbeats (for example BT & Hybrid)

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Apr-22-2001 22:32:

Smoking ..umm..something

Yeah man that might be a good answer, breakbeat trance has been creeping up on people slowely, and over her in the Uk people have really started taking more of a liking to a more breakbeat style sound.

Posted by Twilogoddess on Apr-22-2001 22:58:

Tech house, Definately progressive trance & house. Break Beats...Sasha is the God of breaks...Pvd has been using lotta phat ass breaks recently. Epic trance is slowing dying ;(, notice Tiesto's latest production flight 643 is progressive, even though it doesn't go anywhere.

Posted by MRC1200 on Apr-22-2001 23:12:

Drunk

Progressive house is the new trend now.. any real epic or uplifting trance has been dying out~ and DJs are heading for more of that tribal deep sounds... Bcuz of this, DJs like MAx Graham are predicted to be BIG in the upcomming years of this trend continues..

I also think Tech-hard trance is getting more popular.. Just listning to PVD at twilo a week ago saids enuff..

Sasha is breakbeat god???! what are u talking about? I never seen sasha play more then 2 consecutive breakbeat tracks~ he spins breakbeats as often as PVD does.. just to break up the set here and there... the REAL breakbeat GOD is DJ Icey.. He spins that funky/trancey breakbeat all nite.. cant get enuff! =P

Posted by TeKnoHe@d2025 on Apr-23-2001 04:37:

I'm gonna have to say either progressive or hard trance. They're pretty much neck & neck right now

True...but I don't care for Icey's breaks. Pvd played so many diff genres last wk...tech house, prog house, techno, breaks, prog;epic;hard trance. It was 1 of the best sets I've ever heard from him besides 7-21-00.

Posted by Muchacho Blanko on Apr-23-2001 07:03:

y'all are off

Now you all may laugh, but I heard DJ Calculator was up on some next shit....apparently that cat's got this crazy set up involving a five piece polka band, a wah-wah peddle, and a turntable or something like that....no mixer or anything...s'called polka-kore...believe me, this shit will be tight.

Posted by breakdown on Apr-23-2001 11:31:

my prediction is that:
the rest of 2001 will be progressive... and maybe the renaissance tribal sound of 98 will be back...
but 2002..
hehe.. i am GUESSING that its gonna go back uplifting..
bets?? heh

Talking

Iam going with Tec or Hard Trance

Also you have to remember it only takes one really good song to change the market . If you have ever noticed that when someone comes out with a song that makes it big time , everyone flows this . you will see this time again and again in the charts .

Posted by Chrissy G on Apr-23-2001 12:47:

DJ Tiesto is leading the way with his progressive sound. Just look at Flight 643 and how popular it is. He isn't making tunes like Gouryella lately is he because there's no call for them at the moment.

Progressive and tech trance is the sound I reckon.

Chris

For starters since when have Hybrid (Trance/Breakbeat) and Deep Dish (Seriously deep house) Been proggy!?

Anyway this year i reckon it'll b very progressive although i think theres a big demand for Hard Trance at the mo. Next year u'll be either breakbeat or tech-trance.

NO TECHNO!!!!!!
Noway, many people don't like techno (the have to play it at my funeral, I'll die for it) so it won't be the sound.

I rather have that a little group like the music than a whole country.....it will be a disaster for the Techno scene.
It will be the same way like the Hardcore/Terror(gabbah)-scene......it will DIE

SO LET THE SOUND STAY UNDERGROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
