The level of production is amazing......

Hi guys. Was listening to "Timebomb" by David Gravell earlier on headphones, was pretty blown away by how good the production actually is.

Sometimes it seems like the gulf is so large, I presume the guy has produced for a hell of a long time, but at times I can't help but wonder if he just has a hell of a lot more natural talent than I do.

I know that tracks on Armada especially are usually mastered to death, but man, it makes me think on how much I've got to discover when it comes to production.

Like, sometimes you don't actually stop and appreciate how good someones work actually is, at least I don't.

Thoughts, got any similar stories &/or producers that make you think this?

Mix engineers.

They use mix engineers.

And ghost producers.

Come on people...you serious? What should be so special about that mix/production? Sounds like a regular armada product from these days.

not any one track in particular but when I first got studio monitors in 2009 and listened to all the tracks I was already familiar with, didn't really understand the medium I was working with until then. I'd been writing music or composing since I was a teenager but I can only say I've been producing since 2009. Had no idea there was a front/back dynamic or 'depth.' Couldn't hear it with headphones or the crap I was using before

I didn't even listen to it, but anything that's released by any kind of 'respectable' label will have gone through a good set of ears or two.

All the worship for "professional" sound in these genres is stupid imo, 128kbps tracks from 99' sound better than this shit.

What is this "Professional" sound really worth if it gives you a headache after 10 minutes?

I don't know where is that amazing "level" the op is talking about. Heard the track and it's average in every aspect.

What good is having a stellar production if the track itself is forgettable?

+1 to this. Listening environment is paramount. I've spent the past year converting my bedroom "studio" into something more proper and the difference in insight and appreciation when listening to music is major. The sense of depth and stereo imaging is probably what stands out the most, though there are of course other benefits as well. It's like finding out you've been wearing the wrong prescription glasses for years and had no idea until someone gave you a proper pair.
