-- I need help!!! Trance dilemma!!!
I need your help on something...
I produce trance tracks independently and have them on mp3.com for download...
I was recently approached by a singer who said he took a listen to some of the tracks I produced and was interested in using one or more of the songs for his upcoming album. He wants to change the track into a 3-minute long eurodance-pop song with vocals... The amount of money he's offering for use of the track is pretty good...
BUT... I feel like if I let him use this track, I'm sort of selling out and allowing him to change my song from a pure uplifting trance track to a cheesy pop song about love, and all for the money...
However, if I do let him use it, I can use the money to buy some even better equipment and make better trance tracks...
What do u guys think? Should I do it or not???
mp3.com/myndless
WOW!! your got some talent there buddy...what program do u use???
I use Cubase VST along with my synth... simple yet powerful combination
Tough call! The thought of selling out will always be in your mind. If the guy is gonna tear your song down to a shit pop song just make sure that although you produced the skeleton of it that your name isn't publicly attached. Know what I mean? If it'll help you to purchase better equipment and make even better trance then that becomes a greater benefit.
good music you got there =o)
hmmmmmmm. damn! tough call there buddy. but its not like you already have a career and your selling out to this. this could help(we hope) in getting a career started though. decisions, decisions. its not like your really selling just to make some money. its for a good reason. i dont know what to tell ya though. but id sell, anything that would help me to one day achieve my dream, i wouldnt hesitate.
hm...
... well lets see...
HOW much is the guy offering you?
..personaly unless it is an outragous amount, and the guy has to be a total crackhead to offer you that amount, do it.
if you could live without the money, BY ALL MEANS DO SO! I cant remember the sn, but his sig is "trance is life, pop is death" ...i think ur stuff is too good to be turned into a cheesy europop song.
hehehehee that be lynx and it says life is trance. death is pop
lol whatever you were close enough
I wouldn't really say you're selling out if you allow someone else to remix your song. In fact, if the remix becomes popular, people that may not have heard the original may take a listen. I say go for it with a clear conscience.

but like trance outlaw said, you could always tell the guy to not affiliate the track with you. but i mean, if you're getting new equipment in the deal, it'll be better in the long run. all for the good of the trance nation.
good work myndless!! *pat on the back*
owell
sorry lynx or infinity whichever u prefer(..hehe just read dat thread) *sigh*.. i should have remembered :P owell
heheheheh.
well, infinity's sleepin' right now. so it's my turn on the comp.
no need to apologize bro. it's all good.
i dont think you should think of it as selling out
you will still have your original work, plus you will have money to buy new equipment to enhance your music/talent and make even better music... anyway, thats my 3 cents
I will give you some advise
Da-mynDlesS-one What I would do first is to copy right you music , do this by posting your songs { IN THE MAIL } to someone one you can trust and to your self , but do not open then leave them sealed , this way you have evidence of when you made these songs because they are sled and dated . Doing this has one court cases before . Also have you sent any demos into recording labels yet , because I think your music is 95% there , and this person that wants to buy your song Thinks this as well . Don`t sell your songs yet to this bloke , because I think you will make it on your own .When you get the record dell go and talk to him and you pull the strings , tell him you want 15% of the royalties . I produce my own music to and this is how I would go about it .If you need more help please ask .
Thanks for your feedback guys, I appreciate it...
Here's the situation now:
I'm allowing him to use one of my older tracks which he likes... I din't mind changing that one, since I don't intend on promoting that one or putting it onto any new albums...
But he took a listen to my newest track, one that I haven't even put up on my mp3.com site yet, and he says he wants to use that one as well... In my personal opinion, it's the best pure trance track I've made so far, so I don't really wanna ruin it... So I'm thinking twice about changing that one... as far as money goes, we still have to negotiate whether I want royalties from each CD he sells or just a lump sum once we're finished producing... I think I might go for the lump sum, cuz I don't think he'll sell very many albums... it's more of a demo CD, since he's looking to get signed to a record label...
But anyway, do u guys think I should let him use my newer track?
Oh yeah, and all my tracks are copyrighted, so I don't have to worry about that...
myndless.com
I think you should sell to him, maybe his album becomes a bestseller or so, and if a bigtime record company sees your name on the album, you'll get a contract with them.
If not, you'll have enough money to buy new equipment to make better trance tracks that will get you a contract, I'm positive, you have talent
Yes I agree with JD Dark sell him this track, cause you have talent and produces many more better trance traxx in the future. Good luck.
Laters
Just make sure you think everything through first , once its sold and singed theres no going back
wow. you really know how to use your stuff. what kind of synth do you have, is it just a workstation like a korg?
or just a simple basic synth? ... just need to figure out how to use cubase myself, this is exactly the kind of thing i want to be doing.
the transition to c minor is my favorite part (of Sound Of Life), experiment more with minor keys.. you could produce some really epic stuff, major keys can be the slippery slope to cheese..
blue skies is an excellent example
your work with the drums on the offbeat lead in (between the 4 and 1 beats) is very impressive and creative
keep up the outstanding work... we need a thread helping software-dumbasses like myself to understand how to use cubase

wow you have a great talent. i wish i could do that. personally i think you should sell the track to him. i think with the money and the equipment upgrade, its only gonna help you in the long run. this is only one of the many successful tracks that you will make. just don't forget about us here at trancEaddict when you hit it big ok? good luck.
