-- Wanting to get into mixing....

Posted by SirJimbob on Apr-23-2001 01:49:

Now I am totally dumb on the whole topic here...

I want to start learning how to mix, and I want to know what exactly I should get. Now I've seen the top of the line technics turntables...and well I kinda am strapped for cash...

So what can I do to get started with a limited budget?

Thanks

Well, let's see...

I started out with a borrowed mixer from a friend (cheap 50 $ thing), my moms old turntable (had a little pitch knob) and a non-pitchable CD-player...

But today, I would suggest you start mixing on your PC to make sure that it's what you want to do. Doesn't cost a thing, just get some mixing program and some mp3s.
If you know that you wanna do it for real, I would go to a store where you can test different turntables (where do you live?). I would rather buy a cheap mixer than crappy turntables. You could try to get some used Mk2s, I have a friend who got 2 for 250 $.
Hope this helps. Best of luck with your mixing, and don't be disappointed, the beat-matching takes time to learn...
