The Ring

i've just went to see this movie yesterday night at the theaters and i was almost shitting bricks while watching it. Despite it being rated PG-13, this has to be one of the scariest movies i've ever seen in my life! Anyone else seen it yet?

Posted by Jayci on Oct-20-2002 02:35:

I haven't watched it yet, but someone I know watched the Japanese version a few years ago and he said it's the scariest movie he's ever seen. I may go watch it after midterms

compaired to japaneese version it was.... very.. umm... well... what would you expect off a hollywood remake?

Word of advice: watch the original japanese version from back 1997.. One word: godly..

Posted by AnotherWay83 on Oct-20-2002 04:30:

im gonna go c it in an hour's time...

Posted by jzmhed1 on Oct-20-2002 04:38:

to everyone considering watching the japanese version of the ring:

DONT BOTHER. it sucks mejor donkey ballz. it's ass-boring too. it emphasizes plot over character development, instead of striking a balance between the two. and i dunno bout u, but i cant stand to watch a movie in which i dont give a rat's ass about the main characters. And that's not even mentioning the cheesy special effects. stay the hell away from Ringu.

im back from seeing the movie...was quite a thriller, but the main point was lost on me until a few minutes after i was out of the theatre...heheh...but i get it now...nice...sumwhat like m night shyamalam's stuff...

jzmhed1 definitelly prefers american teen "horrors" a la Wes Craven... ;(

oh well.. his loss.

Posted by k.k.d. on Oct-20-2002 15:28:

oh, and of what "effects" in the original you were talking? There was NO special effects whatsoever in the original movie (Unlike in the remake), the movie being a pure pillar of genious cinematography and ambience... Geez

its title sounds like a gay porn movie!

I saw this last night. Holy shit... What a cool movie.

I can't wait to see the original version.

I can still see the little girl crawling out of the tv with her hair covering her face. And when they show the girl in the closet at the beginning, that was quite a shock.

Moral: TV is bad for you, turn it off!!!

me and my gf are going to see it tonight for our 2 month thingy. weee

but yeah. i wanted to see this since....i heard everyone talk about it.

[written by EViLOPTiC from fucktheinter.net]

A mysterious video tape is killing off anyone who watches it. Whenever the victim watches it, the phone rings, telling them they have only one week to live. A young reporter named Rachel is investigating these events, but after she and her small son watch the tape, it becomes a race against time to find out why the tape is killing everyone and how it could be stopped...

You're right. I would definitely rather see a teen slasher flick than sit through that garbage again. While slasher flicks are stupid and instantly forgettable, you can't deny that they are fun as hell to watch with friends.

And how did I lose? Oh, you mean the two hours of my life that I lost by watching this lameness. The tone and pace of the movie kinda reminds me of The Mothman Prophecies which, incidentally, sucks too.

***SPOILERS***
Well, I guess I don't mean special effects. I'm referring to the scene where the reporter chick (I think, or her ex) is down in the well and she sees Sadako rise up out of the water. Admittedly, this part of the movie is pretty creepy initially, but then she peels her scalp off to reveal the skull underneath. The skeleton figure had all the realism of a sock puppet. It's a minor gripe, but this scene caused me and my friends to laugh our asses off for a good minute or two. That was a little too cheesy, even for a 1997 foreign film.

k.k.d., don't take my comments personally. I'm just offering an alternate perspective to this movie, for the benefit of those that want to hear all sides of the story. It isn't my intention to offend anyone. I just want people's expectations of this movie to be realistic. I watched this movie with really high expectations, thanks to a friend who was hyping it up as the greatest horror film ever, better than Exorcist (YEAH RIGHT!!! BLASPHEMY!!)! Of course, I was bitterly disappointed. I just don't want the same to happen to anyone else. I mean, if someone comes up in here and reads your post where you mentioned that this movie was godly, they might be expecting to see something that they're not gonna get.

And to everyone, remember that I'm just talking about the japanese version of The Ring. Haven't seen the American version yet.

Peace out late.

Ummmm.... I didnt like it and except for the typical cue LOUD SOUND i didnt really jolt at all. I see way to many movies and my friends and i ragged on this one a bunch just got to cheesy at the end. Did like the dirrecting tho

Posted by Stanza on Oct-21-2002 13:16:

So what exactly is this film about?
From what I've heard, it is some b grade asian horror flick.

Posted by BTG on Oct-21-2002 14:28:

I just saw it, the opening scene, was prolly the scariest....the rest of the movie wasn't as scary as it was creepy/thrillerish. The end was kinda lame...but scary still, but yeah.. the girl in the closet made the movie 100x scarier than if she wasn't in the closet, same with the girl in the tv, when she comes out, and is far away, and then just teleports over...kinda creepy
