Nature of flamers. (Please read!)

Why do people resort to flaming?

Well it's like this.
When you run out of brain cells to do the calculations, all you got left is a bunch of animal instincs like anger. So you fire up the throwers and off we go...... weeeeeeeeeeee

I've seen quite a few threads getting locked and with the political forum comming up I thought we better start puting a cap on it.

Flaming is quite allright when it's directed towards ideas and beliefs, but it's hell when you aim your throwers at people.

E.g
I hate Capitalism (Good)
I hate capitalists (Bad)
get the idea!

If you find something you belive in under attack, try to find intelligent arguments in it's favour. It's actually fun! It's called the art of argument. (Atacking ideas and not the person your talking to)

And ALWAYS remember. Anger is an animal instinct.
It's something we've inherited from our animal ancestors. They used instincs like fight and flight to survive. We don't need it anymore but unfortunatly we'r stuck with it. And as you can see it's been causing minor discomforts in forms of world wars and so on...

Remember! When you get angry and start flaming, there's a very angry little monkey in there that's trying to do with flames what it can't do with it's brain!

So don't be a monkey...

flames more often than not are brought about by the other person being unreasonable, ie you cant talk it through with them, they jsut attack you, so how can you respond to that? even more reasoning results in more abuse, although sumtimes ive reasoned peopel out of flaming back, usually mods are on hand to stop these sort of things...

You'll find that not responding to flamers and ignoring them alltogether is usually the best medicine.

But even that's flame-baiting, because you're making a strong emotional judgement on a subject with no attempt to back it up. A capitalist would have just as much right taking you up on saying "I hate capitalism" as he would if you said "I hate capitalists".

I disagree with the majority of the fundamental tennets underlying capitalist theory, insofar as I am qualified to make such judgements(Good)

It's called the art of politic. Good clean fun, and the best part is usually your insults (which are now nicely veiled in rhetoric and big words ) go completely unnoticed by the flammer. They just shrug and go. Utterly lost... great fun

for real, i have never had a problem with flamers in political forms... you spot them very easily and ignore them, the only time they are a nuisense is when they become more the focus then the actual debate between the other rational participants.
