Unhappy Monash Uni shootings??

Does anyone in this forum attend Monash Uni at the clayton campus and was at uni today? If so can anyone enlighten us all on the events that happened there today?

Ive heard so far that 2 students were killed and another 5 were in a serious but stable condition.
The police have captured a man and have taken him into custody for further question at the glen waverley police station.

It sure is scary though. Who would do such a horrible thing? Makes you have second thoughts about different things thats for sure.

i was there. im home now though. a bit shaken up i think. it was on the 6th floor, i was in a class on the 8th floor when it happened. a couple of people came to our class and said theres been reports of a shooting, so lock the doors or something, stay here until its safe or something. so we did.
i talked to a friend who was on the floor below. they heard there was an accident or something so they were walking out (class finished early) then they see this cop who starts yelling at them to get out, theres a guy with a gun. its not exactly what you want to hear.
and i know someone who was 2 classerooms down. i also saw someone who said they were there in the corridor, and they saw one of the wounded guys crawling, he was shot in the leg and bleeding, he asked them for help and they were just standing there shaking, then he said just run and get out, i think the dude was still there. he was fucking running around or something. im walking down the fire escape stairs thinking shit this guy could fucking run out the door any second. its scary. you see stuff like this happen in america and that, but you dont realise how scary or worrying something like this is until it happens close to home. i dont know if there was just one guy or another one as well, but they have one suspect and he got tackled buy some people and they nabbed him, fucking heros. im sitting in my class thinking if this guy is serious a fucking locked door isnt gonna stop him.
i think the class was a macro economics one or something, dont know what year though.
i know one person doing that but hes fine, was at home all day i think. i think everyone i know there is ok, but until i hear from all my friends ill still be a bit worried. and im supposed to have an exam on wednesday...

Far out thats pretty full on!

Glad your doing alright though Philby, hopefully all your mates are sweet too.
Hopefully you can all pull together in time for your exams coming up.

Yeh you only hear about that kinda shit over in the states. Not here, Australia of all places you would think is the safest place in the world in be in. Makes you realise not to take everything for granted.

FUCKING HELL this is not america or is it?

Posted by Philby on Oct-21-2002 06:01:

yeah thanks guys.
it was some asian dude, like 30 or something.
wanker.
what has to go through your mind to make you do this?
i mean surely you must be thinking at some stage that this person is going to die? you killed them! they arent going home to their family, they wont be going out with their friends on the weekend, nothing! doesnt it occur to them? how can you do this and just think ahh stuff it ill shoot them anyway??? what has to happen to drive you to do something like this?

Just one tragedy after another, i dunno what this means but more and more people are living their lives in fear and that's another tragedy in its own.

Relieved to hear you're well Philby (in a physical sense) and our condolences do go out to the loved ones of the victims of this heinous crime.

Sad but true, as indicated in this report . But until I get all the facts I'm not gonna presume anything.

Take care everyone and take care of each other.

Yeh thats some hectic stuff... Sorry to hear what happened... I myself have been through many similar expriences...

A few years ago, 2 of my best friends were shot during a party...
They were okay after a few weeks in hospital, but one of them suddenly had a blood clot from the shot wound and died.

And earlier this year, a guy that I use to know died from a shooting @ a night club...

Fruckin pisses me off with all these hard ****s carrying guns, thinking to themselves "Don't mess with me, i'm a gangsta cause i have a gun" !

People just don't know when to stop...

We were told about these happenings in school this arvo, said we could call home if we had bros/sisters there. Scary shit, so much worse when it hits home. This kinda stuff hasn't really happend in Australia before apart from the Port Arthur masacre, but now, having had it happen I can relate to all the other countries when they experience the same stuff for the 10th time over.

Posted by DynaFire on Oct-21-2002 07:15:

Feel for you Philby, i had a bunch of friends on the 7th floor who where pretty scared and they had to evacuate down the fire escape... Luckly there all ok. I was in the computer labs and so nothing was going on there. I was pretty scared about where my girlfriend was but luckly she was in the library not in french the floor below.... Not a nice start to the week. Everybody at halls is a bit shaken up. I think i might practice on the decks for a bit and forget about studying for my exam on thursday.

Yeah, it's all a bit fucked up.

I have a mate who does economics at Monash Clayton, and he left the building 20 minutes before it happened. Apparently he's meant to have a tute in the very same room it happened in tomorrow arvo - so yeah, it's hitting pretty close to home.

Any ideas what the motive is yet?

Posted by dj_nomiz on Oct-21-2002 07:41:

always makes u think how safe u really are when incidents like this hit somewhere near home (australia)

Posted by Pointy on Oct-21-2002 07:43:

Nothing's been said about a motive. All the news has talked about is a rampage. Police are confident it isn't part of some terrorist linkup or anything. I think the guy was just a nutter. When they checked out his home they found numerous handguns and weapons of all kinds.

What annoys me is how after the Bali attacks, the Indonesian military leader got up and said he is going to make sure non of this shit happens to Australians again in Indonesia and he will do his all to protect us. But really, he can try as hard as he can, but it still doesn't stop the randomness of the attacks. Intelligence might hear of plans for an attack, but they still have no idea when!! Same with these shootings - we have no idea when it could happen again. The world's fucked up, its come to the point where you really have to make a point of living everyday n loving ur family, friends n all. It aint getting closer to home anymore, shit....it's here

What the fuck is wrong with people these days!
SO many freaken crazy weiros and crap! This wanker in america who should have the scope of his sniper rammed up his ass! The ******s who bombed the Sari club, If only I had them I would . . . . . *static*
And now this dickhead who kills uni students! what kind of a sad bloody world is this!
I say what the F**K happened to capital punishment! I's sure theyd think twice if they knew there was a chair waiting for em!
Thats the problem! The victims are ignored and we look after the fricken criminal!

I'm glad you are ok Philby. Pretty unexpected tyhing to happen, especially at a Uni.
Feel sorry for the parents and friends too.

This type of shit really makes you scared b/c its so close to home.

I know 4 friends who were in that honours class when it happened. One of them was air lifted to the Alfred, with shots to the legs and chest i think. I hear that he will pull through though which is good. My other friends are not hurt thank god!

The event was in the middle of class, and the guy (also a student)pulls out this potatoe gun and starts shooting. He then pulls out the real hand guns and then starts firing again. Apparently he had an honour seminar presentation to do later that day as well.

The shocking thing to know is, i've been in many classes with this guy before. Kinda quiet guy, who's English isnt very good at all, but pretty smart from what i can gather.
It's scary to know that someone who goes to the same uni as you is capable of something this sickening.

Hope anyone else out there who was hurt is pulling through.

Posted by narcism on Oct-21-2002 12:56:

when i first heard of the shootings, i was driving home from uni listening to JJJ and they just said something brief at monash and a shooting and that was it...
so i channel surfed thru a few stations until i heard wat happened, my best friend goes to that uni and i know she had a tute in that building on that time, so i rang her
luckily she had a hang over from the night before and didnt go

its kinda scary thinking that someone can be walking around the campus with weapons.. ..
sorta brings you crashing down to reality, thinking maybe we aren't always safe in australia and we are heading like america with there collumbine (sp.) shootings

Although i will have 2 say the 1st thing that came to mind when i heard it was "drugs" Dunno Y, just did...
but watching the news im kinda thinking thats not the case nemore

i know! i was thinking the same kinda thing, you hear about that stuff all the time but it doesnt really hit you until it happens to you

hehe glad your friend was hungover! sounds like a girl i know lol
everytime i see her at uni she got plastered the night or nights before. either that or i dont see her because she got too hammered she couldnt be stuffed turning up!

Posted by Wasted_Space on Oct-21-2002 14:54:

yeah, was supposed to be in class @ 11. slept in, rocked up @ 11:30ish, fvcking surreal sight, everyone standing around, wailing of sirens in the distance and the loud, heavy drone of the choppers. looked around, found out what was happening, went home, called everyone i knew who went to monash...

This is soo wrong.

Sympathies to the victims and their families.

I gotta test tomorrow, wonder what thats gonna be like.

Posted by stipsy on Oct-21-2002 23:40:

im just hoping vut is not the next target!

dont wanna sounds bad but we got a lot of people at that uni that look capable of doing something like that

Oh man, I find it hard to believe that stuff like this happens in Australia. I guess Ive always thought of this kind of stuff as an "American thing". I guess we do take things for granted.
What brings people to commit such heinous crimes?! I guess there are some really fucked up people out there...

My sympathies go out to all those affected

Posted by SeeK on Oct-22-2002 11:08:
