Camel Audio purchased by Apple!

This is exciting for Logic users!

Apple appears to have acquired popular music plug-in and effect maker Camel Audio, based on information found on corporate registry site Companies House [PDF]. Camel Audio's address has been updated to 100 New Bridge Street, which is Apple's London address, and the company's sole director is now listed as Apple lawyer Heather Joy Morrison, suggesting the company is in the possession of Apple.

I was hoping for NI honestly. Still I will be able to use their new stuff on my Macbook so its not a total loss though whatever they release will have to be really special to justify that restriction.

If it is true I suspect it'll become tech incorporated into Logic rather than a standalone product.

Ah fuck.

Yeah, remember that tweet from the Audio Damage guy that read along the lines of "Camel Audio has been acquired by you know who and will be rolled into you know what"

I don't think it's bad news and we better get used to it as this will be the shape of things to come;

All the daws basically do the same shit so what sets them apart now? It's the plugins, and Logic has made a concerted effort to up their game, including the new trackstacks, new instruments, legacy instruments, new EQ etc.

Also, when you think of the funds that Apple or Steinberg have, it's no issue for them to buy up even a large plugin brand.

I wonder if NI will come next....

If that happened I pretty much would switch to Mac / Logic and not look back. However, I don't think it is very likely because Apple already acquired Redmatica for sampling functionality and Camel Audio for synthesis.

True, but don't be so sure; apple has the funds to buy NI without even blinking but in some respects one of the attractive things to them would be making NI products Mac only. They know this and judging by your sentiments, if they did make NI mac only and then you factor in Camel and all the other plugs that Logic has, it would basically make all the other daws look like expensive limited toys.

I'm glad because at one point it looked like apple were going to sideline Logic - there was a gap of 4 years between 9 and X, and now it seems they've made it a priority once again.

Has anyone looked at Logic's new compressor gui's, i fancy them.

It is if you own a PC.

I would imagine Apple spends more on staff t shirts than it does on plugin development.

The key gain in acquiring something like camel is speed, it'll save them two years of development and bug hunting.

Meh, there are plenty of other options.

Eh? You mean Hackintosh or Linux? You must like pain.

No, I mean like... not using Logic.

You mean use Cubase on a mac?

It actually works really well but I don't get the difference. They both basically do the same shit (And yes, I know the differences and shortfalls of both).

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Feb-25-2015 01:55:

No, I mean... oh, forget it.

logic - the only DAW that can't send midi to audio plugins despite being supported by au protocol. But hey, you get like drummers with names and shit.

they've had about a decade to fix it. The developpers are beyond clueless.

New rumors that some form of Alchemy will be included with the next GB update:
