MysteryLand 2015

This was a great time last year and look's like it will be great again. 3 solid areas both days with talent outside of the go to Insomniac tech roster. The Girls and Boys lineup adds a 4th area Sunday.

Even the Main stage looks palatable (Bob Moses, Claptone, Empire of the Sun, Netsky)

I think there may be some very cheap tickets available on Stubhub as the EDM market is very vocally upset at the lack of usual headliners.

Bethel is breath taking.

Also 21+ makes a difference.

weak lineup this year compared to last. i had so much fun last year but really expected a lot more from ML again. EDCNY lineup blows this shit away but id much rather party at a 21+ event plus camping. that being said there are some high quality DJs and stages and im sure this year will be enjoyable once again being back camping at bethel woods. again, i just expected more from them after all the hype and delay on releasing this.

Not a straight comparison.
But, it is taking place the same weekend, so if you have to choose, you have to compare them.

I'm totally with AY here:

The line-up is way better in Detroit.
Most of the stuff that is at ML but not in Detroit is pretty forgettable stuff.
Where ML could have been good but is mostly AWOL is with jamtronica, such as Tribe, Lotus, Ott, DB, Boombox, EOTO, Particle, that sort of thing.

And this is just me:
I could care less about the non-music offerings, seems like a waste of time.
But the main turn-off: no car camping.
The stuff-schlepp that requires is such a pain.

Camp Bisco was way better on both counts (mostly car camping), and Camp heads who did ML confirm that.

I have to admit though that ML isn't bad as such, Bethel Woods is a nice place for sure

What's Mysteryland like? I'm thinking about going as my little mini vacation before I get really busy during the summer. I'm looking to do the camping as well. I love to camp and this plus the festival atmosphere has my interests piqued.

EDC NY locked down all the big names for both Mainstage & Underground. Insomniac in it for the kill

^Gear hauling complaint solved. I actually got it for $40 at BJ's and the walk from car to camp ground wasn't far at all.

Also disagree on the lineup, Lee Burridge, Damian Lazarus, Bob Moses, Andhim, Eric Volta, Matador, Paco Osuna, Ryan Elliot, MJC, Anja Schneider, Guti, Jozif, Super Flu, Agoria, Kink and the whole Drumcode crew are not "forgettable" for me.I also think Empire of the Sun, The M Machine and Netsky are great live acts.

This whole thing can be had for around $250 and its 2 hours from NYC. As great as Movement is and as cheap as the ticket is it involves hotels and airplanes.

This just isn't a jamtronica fest and let's not forget Camp Bisco was banished for too many kids ODing before we put it on a pedestal.

I'm gonna hop in the middle here. Camp was canceled for a little more than "kids ODing." Meatspin or whatever the hell the promotion group was called couldn't get their act together at all. BPM_PHIL that link you posted for the cart certainly makes lugging your stuff easier, but at the end of the day you simply are not posted up next to your car. I find that wildly inconvenient. To this point what most forget is summer festival season goes hand in hand with rain, and I'll be the first to tell you attempting to sleep in a tent as buckets fall from the sky sucks. ML got lucky last year and avoided this all together for the most part.

With all that said, this seems to be a very busy weekend & as mentioned its really just a matter of how you prefer to enjoy your music. Although EDCNYC may have a better line up in some minds, you are still listening to music in a parking lot AND you have to go home when its over, whether thats by train or car. Much different than being on a beautiful campgrounds and VERY VERY different than the wild wild west of Detroit. Waking up on a campgrounds and being a part of the whole festival experience is much more freeing than thinking about how you are getting to or from an event such as EDCNYC or the clubs/DEMF in Detroit.

Lastly, though ML certainly could have upped their jamtronica game up a bit, I do not think that's what they were going for. If there is an overall lack of the womp & jam one would think they simply just didn't want it

All in all I personally think that line up has its fair share of a good time from the drumcode crew to the French Express disco. Plus if you really want to get weird with some jamtronica Beats Antique is there.. so theres that too

It seems like Bisco devolved into a very druggie/yolo crowd towards the end of its run and I didn't get that feeling from MLand at least last year.

uhu, but even with the 21+, I'd expect that from ML, if less so than EDC.

Actually, that was the Skrillex component, though the antics never seemed to affect the festival as far as I was concerned, space was big enough most of the time, not all of it of course.

Of course much of those names would fit in at Movement to one degree or another, and I'd be glad to see them.

I don't even blame that for killing anything. They only do that indirectly, from an intolerant society that prohibits, and that feels the need to protect adults from their own bad decisions.
It's not the drugs or their stupid misuse that ruin festis, clubs, etc, but the guv'mt and the general "oh my gosh" attitude.

never ceases to amaze me that we're still there in 2015. wjem the people now making the rules (they've been doing that for about 20 years now) should know better. Back in the day, the people in charge came from a different era,ie pre-60s, but today?

Camp didn't get cancelled for drugs directly at all.
It was only because Meatcamp didn't do the permit obligations from 2013. I don't thing they fucked that up by accident at all, I think they did it on purpose. They knew what it would take to get the 2014 permit all the way before the 2013 festi even took place, simply didn't follow-through on the 2013 permit obligations. That gave the authorities an easy: good-by, and they' had stated it during the 2013 permit process...

then MCP goes and schedule "Camp Bisco without the Biscuits" the exact same weekend as always for Camp, in a different location.
They were trying to cut the Biscuits out.
That they fucked up good last year, and glad they got theirs, no HP v.2.

Thanks for that long response, I don't disagree with anything. I am not at all against drug use just stupidity and recklessness.

ML was incredible last year. the best camping rave ive ever done personally and it was my 4th or 5th one. i will agree, no car camping is a BIT of a pain but not the end of the world. the haul of your gear wasnt as far and as bad as i was expecting. it had by far the best vibe of any camping rave ive done. 4 days and didnt see one single issue of an OD or problematic behavior with this festival being 21+. i dont know what youre into music wise but there is something for everyone (techno and house stages again with some big time heavy hitters). the sound and production quality was also top notch and as stated prior, camping at bethel woods is absolutely gorgeous and only having to walk back to your tent at the end of it all is heaven rather than driving or hailing a cab! im very excited again for round 2 this year.

and yes, for hauling gear the link someone posted of the collapsible wagon is a godsend. didnt think of that last year and will be purchasing 2 this year.
