Letting hair grow...

Well, after having my head shaving because I was accepted at a university (read the cultural background info), I decided to let my hair grow a bit more (touching my shoulder will be fine). I haven't done anything (except some minor adjustments) in the last 5/6 months, and it now looks so... ugly. People say that this was supposed to happen and I need to wait a lot more time to have it the way I want

For those of you who have already passed through this experience: how did you manage to make your hair look human during this time?

Cultural Background info: it's some sort of Brazilian ritual... everytime a boy enters the university life, his head is shaved... among other things Girls have their ritual as well, by the way

well i dunno what they call in Brazil...but neone thats trying to grow their hair out or get dreads or whatnot here needs the 'Normal Guy Haircut'. every hair cutter knows what this is, alt i dunno about translation. its pretty average with fading from short to medium length and if you tell the barber or whatever youre growing your hair out they should know the deal|


never grown my hair long btw...just a helpful tip

oh, btw. congrats on getting into the University...that's a good accomplishment. about hair? hmmm.....i had longer hair once...down past my ears or so - girls loved it. whatever.....

dude im in the same boat havent cut my hair in 6 months....still letting it grow...im not letting it grow down to my shoulders thought just down to my mouth its almost there....let me tell u one thing abt growing hair.....u go through stages....sometimes it looks amazing other times it looks like ass....u just got to live thru it and sport hats :P

hahah thats funny im in the same boat also, I had somewhat of a shag and cut it, and now I want it back and longer, My hair is to long to put up in the front and look decent but to short to really try to put it down and claim a shag, it sucks! But once a couple months go by im sure ill be fine....just have to hold out till then

Well, it depends on the course they are accepted in. Actually, though I had said it was a ritual for girls, everybody (including the poor boys who already had their head shaven) has to pay for it

Examples:
1) Paint people in white and black (cow-like) with some kind of paint that children use, stick some surgery glove (full of air) to their stomach so it'll look like cow tits and finally, bid them as if they were cows

2) Paint them (with random colours), throw eggs, powder, ..., i.e. get them dirty (this one is commonly done when people view their results at university)

3) Get some water and antacid (so there will be bubbles and stuff). Also, get a friend. Pretend you two are arguing. One of the guys will say things like "No, don't throw acid on the freshmen, it may kill them" and the other (obviously, the one with the cup of water + antacid) will say things like "I'm gonna throw, I'm gonna throw"... and, throw it on some fresh(wo)man. (S)He'll be scared to death thinking you've thrown acid on him, while the truth is: you just threw something completely harmless

There are many, many more I guess it's some sort of Brazilian tradition... is it done anywhere else?

my hair is thick and wavy.
so i dont really know how itll look when its long. maybe good?

anyone know how thick curly hair looks when long? good?

I had to get my head shaved for the military academy a while back. Needless to say, NO girl talked to me for almost half a year. . . .except the dykes in the military of course.

LoL, not always necessarily true... here all the bald guys get all the good females.... shit those of you who know me know my wife..

I used to be in the Corps of Cadets, which is like a miniature version of VMI and Citadel but the difference is, it is part of Virginia Tech. I had a full ride Navy scholarship but i had to drop it after a year cuz engineering and 5 am PT was kicking my ass. I still go to Virginia Tech but not in the academy.

Here we call freshman haircuts, Birth Control haircuts . . .cuz you know

5 a.m. PT???? shit.... you sound like you can't handle the 'life'... lol.... try 4 a.m. PT here man. It isn't really that bad... it makes you feel fresh and in shape all day, plus you can kick anyone's ass....

we don't call shaved heads "birth-control haircuts", b/c over here, shaved head = pimp.... like i said, in operational its the thang.
however, those stupid ugly BIG-rimmed brown framed glasses they give you in basic training we called "BCG's" (birth control glasses), b/c you would NEVER get laid wearing them...

should have stuck with the ride through college - sounds like it was a good deal. Military universities are rated some of the highest in the nation. Good luck in whatever you do...

hehe, not complainin about PT. But stayin up till 2-3 am doing engineering then 5 am PT, then 7 am regiment formation, then 8 am engineering class KICKED MY ASS. Needless to say, my grades werent the best grades around.

heh, I used to wake up at 5 am everyday from the 5th grade up to the end of high school, because I studied in a school managed (?) by the Military Forces. However, I used to feel better waking up at 4, for some unknown and bizarre reason.

Our hair didn't need to be so short, though there was an obvious limit. Maybe that's why I want it to be long now... I've had enough of this short shaved hair

Im growing my hair out too, and the biggest benifit I see is that girls will play with your hair and you can look down their shirt.

It used to go all the way down to my back, but I shaved my head a couple of years ago. But now I've grown it back.

Trouble is when i was a kid I constantly shaved my head and so now my hair is really thick and full, so what I've done is shaved around it and got hair at the top. And it's grown long into a pony tail. I keep shaving around my head and leave the top full. Only way I can have it long now.

Oh and there's no perticular way to keep your hair before it gets long. you just have to live with the mess. I was looking like tarzan for a while there.

this is me ... hair long is the best . JUST be Different , not like every other guy with short hair and the little hair bush on his forehead .. you know what i mean ..
