Capture internal audio (Mac)?

Is it true that I need soundflower or similar to capture internal sound in my mac?

Is the soundflower safe to use?

Soundflower is safe to use. Alternatively, have a look at Audio Hijack.

Soundflower is completely safe but I hate that it creates a 16ch virtual device when you're just trying to capture stereo audio.

Audiohijack works great. It used to be fairly buggy but I hear they fixed it and it's all happy now.

Yes, they release version 3 not too long ago. Changed the interface and the way the app works. Allowing to create signal flows in a more logical way.
