The Death Penalty

In recent threads people have made comments saying that when certain criminals are cought, they should face the death penalty. So I wanted to see what you all thought about the death penalty.

Personally I am against the death penalty because at the very least its absolutly hypocritical to kill someone for killing another person. No one deserves to loose there life, and killing someone, wont bring another person back. Additionally, if you really wanted to punish someone there are probably better ways to do so. I personally would rather die, then say spend a few weeks in solitary confinment, especially knowing that I had killed or raped someone.

life time jail, stay there until you die, and every year on your "birth day" (arival day to the jail), they come down and smack your tiny butt like hell.

I'm against the death penalty on the grounds that I think our justice system is less than 75% accurate. If we could be 100% sure that someone was guilty, I'd have no problem with killing them (preferably in a far more economically efficient manner than is done under our current system), but since we can't be sure, I can't support a system that could potentially kill an innocent person.

Yes! People should get life time jail, instead of the death penalty.
First of all, no man has the right to choose who should live or not. The criminal may already have broken this rule, but we are better than him/her?Right?
And, if they get life time, they'll (hopefully) stay in jail for the rest of their life. By killing them, we only do them a favour. 5that's what they want us to do...

I think...

justice good old mafia style but if not then solitary confinement for the rest of their life should do the trick

f**k that...forget paying taxes to support bozo's...i say take any criminal that has committed a serious crime and put them all on a separate island far far away...so far that they could never find their way back into a civilized community..

3 things:

  1. There is already a thread for this
  2. This should be moved to the Political Forum (which has not been created yet)

Death Penalty for Child Murderers

Ok I shall weigh in on this very sensitive issue.

I believe the death penalty is warranted and should be used. Look, everyone goes on and on about how prisoners need rights and deserve to be safe but what about the victims, who speaks for them, they were killed by the person and what the prisoners should have more rights than the victims. Second of all, you cannot rehab psychopaths which feel no remorse, so what lock them up until you can let them out. Like you can release richard ramirez into society, the man cannot be rehabed, cannot function in society and what.....we are supposed to feed and clothe and let the guy live a good life in prison till he dies. I'm not for the death penalty in all cases tho because if we are unsure, i rather give someone life in prison than death penalty. I'm hated by amnesty international because of my view that prisoners should not have as many rights as they are afforded. Simply, prisoners are almost celebrities....case and point....ira einhorn..dude killed his g.f and kept her body in a streamer trunk for 2 yrs and he gets arrested...out on bail.....jumps the country and goes to europe..finally caught....4 yrs in legal wranglings in france....sent back.....convicted of the crime...last week....he never got the death penalty (should have tho but that is another story).....everyone talks about ira this.....ira that......but what about the poor girl named Holly Maddux that he killed, she will never be alive again so in my mind....whoever says prisoner rights first....can honestly kiss my ass. If you take a life....the law should be able to take yours in a criminal procedings.

I support the death penalty if the person kills someone. Our jails are crowded, and no one likes to pay taxes to house people that do such acts.

Posted by Greedy on Oct-24-2002 17:28:

Well, i think the difference between policians and random killers is that politicians "kill" for a greater cause be it good or bad and usually, they are backed by A LOT of ppl. If ppl have a problem with that and want to punish that particular politician/leader, then theyll have to be prepared to go up against the leader's followers.

Of course, ppl still get put on trial for war crimes so yea. . . . ..

DEATH PENALTY!!!

anybody that murders anyone else in cold blooded murder does not deserve to live themselves. Society should get rid of such ills by none other means than execution.

Defanitly agree with this one

quote:

I disagree with this statement for a number of reasons. First of all Ramirez shouldnt be let out of prison. But with counsiling and possibly medication, a lot of the phsycopaths probably could function relativly well in society. My freinds uncle, served 10 years for attempted manslaughter. During that time he got his life together, he's not on crack anymore, he's delt with his personal demons, and he's on the right medicines. I didnt know him before that ordeal, but now he's like a second father to me. He's nice, smart, compasionate, and a big part of our community.

Posted by Greedy on Oct-24-2002 22:53:

i havent heard of any psychopaths doing anything good for society in general after rehab. Most of the time, they either end up killing more ppl or cost taxpayers more money and by that time, fingers are pointing at whos to blame.

Posted by jp on Oct-24-2002 23:28:

A good sentence would be to force the criminal to listen to Britney Spears 24/7 until he/she explodes

Posted by starglider on Oct-24-2002 23:55:

Bottom line:

1. It's been proven that the threat of the death penalty does not deter murderers.

2. Innocent people have and will continue to die by capital punishment (as Arbiter mentioned).

3. Killing the murderer doesn't bring back the victim, nor does it make the family feel better.

Posted by Haunted on Oct-25-2002 00:18:

here I go.

what the fuck is the point of having some crazy ass idiot who kills people for fun sit in jail,on money that we pay? what point? what is the purpose of his life. to rot away in jail? No.

Ever hear of overpopulation?
it sucks.
can barely find a parking space anymore.
Kill the bad people.

and actually. it does help the victims family.
its called justice. and knowing that their loved ones killer is dead.. gives them the feeling that they are safe, and that the killer isnt still alive and they dont have to think about him anymore.

You guys need to rethink your philosophy
Bad guys = dead = better society = less people = more parking spaces = less assholes to steal girls = more hot girls available.

Posted by Haunted on Oct-25-2002 00:23:

or put them in a room blasting annoying music.
like that Las Ketchum song..
lol

and put a gun in the middle of the room..with blanks.

Hoooray for the death penalty

FYI the cost of putting someone to death is SIGNIFICANTLY more than it costs to put someone in jail for life. It may seem ridiculous but it's true given the costs of legal fees. Most death row inmates live 6-10 years before executed during which they have many many appeals. Thus the cost of actually killing someone is several million whereas it's under a million to keep someone in jail for life.

However I still think that there should be a death penalty. Why? Well first of all there are some crimes far too henious to allow that person to live. Their mere presence on Earth pollutes it. Would you allow Hitler to live? After killing 6+ million innocent people would you allow him to enjoy the smallest shred pleasure he may gain from living the duration of his life? How about pedophile murderers? Would you let them remember back and relish in the crimes they committed before being caught? I bet those fucks that aren't put to death spend every night thinking back to their crimes, jacking off. Also some prisoners stand the chance of being "institutionlized" where they get so used to prison life that they like it. Kinda like Shawshank Redemtion if you saw the movie.

Who benefits if they live? Nobody. At least if they're dead the family gains some closure and society benefits from the fact that they will never walk free again. Why put them out of their "misery" as you so describe posh jaillife nowadays? Well, if you believe in God they will go to a place where they will experience pain far greather than we could imagine. If you don't believe in God then we simply rid society of their foul presence and they are simply reduced to nothingness. I would say that even being miserable in life is preferable to being nothing at all.

So in conclusion, if you're sure that it's your guy, hell yea fry the fu*kers.

Posted by TranceAllstar on Oct-25-2002 04:41:

why should our tax money have to pay for someone like that? I think they should either kill them or make them slaves or something like that and like someone else said have a good beating on their birthday, but hey thats just me

Posted by elena on Oct-25-2002 05:20:

all i have to say is that to me a death penalty is somewhat equivalent to euthanasia and im strongly opposed to the latter...therefore

this is a very common fallacy.
it is like saying a man having sex with his wife is the same as a man raping a random woman. the two actions are the same but they are two very different motives. another example is when a police kills a criminal in the line of duty compared to a sniper killing a random person. those are the same actions but there done for different purposes!

Posted by TranceAllstar on Oct-25-2002 05:24:

buy yea like some of you said, if someone had killed one of your family members would you really want them to live? Or would you feel better watching/knowing that they got the death penalty? Personally ill take number 2......

Posted by Excite on Oct-25-2002 05:26:

would u want crazy fucks like those snipers to be running around again?

i wouldn't! kill the bastards!!!

Posted by DennisF on Oct-25-2002 11:40:

death penalty is the stupidest thing ever!!! you cannot settle a kill with another. I dont wanna know, how many innocent people were murdered so far in the USA by the state.
