What to look out for when buying an electribe emx1

Im going to check one out, so far all I have is that the tube is not broken, are there any known common developing issues with the unit, or things that are first/likely to break.

"knob jitter" a big known issue.

i backed out of buying one because of it. was excited for v2, then that turned out to be a piece of shit. ah well.

Hmm can you replace the tubes with decent ones then?

Real question, do you think I can make some sort of sex-toy dick machine out of a tube compressor? I really want to dial in the transient motion of the stroking.

You want the SD version not the SM...

Firstly, the knob jitter issue has been fixed. It was just a matter of insulation and even if you do get one of the units that suffer from it, 10 minutes, a screwdriver and a sheet of baking paper solves it for good.

Secondly, I wouldn't say they're bad sound quality - the earlier (mk1) tribes were not great sounding but they had that lo-fi kind of detroit sound that made them attractive, however they were only 16bit and 32kh on the samples (don't even fucking ask - to this day no one knows why korg choase that).

The EMX (the blue one) is the second generation of tribes (not the mk2 of the 1st gen) actually sounds pretty good and I know plenty of guys who released tracks made on little else more than them (or at least using them as the backbone for the track and then layering with synths/fx).

They sound pretty good. The stock tubes are crap but there's tons of other valves you can get to upgrade them. Let me know and I'll dig up some links.

They may limited in some ways in terms of what you can do, but honestly, you'll never have as much fun making tracks on these.

So the guy got back to me, apparently there is one issue with the unit, the "quick trigger arp pad thing" doesnt respond as well as it used to near the bottom of it. I dunno now, I'd really like the sample version so I can load up all my shit, but the guy is selling it at a sweet price.

Honestly, just do it. If it's cheap, you'll get more joy out of it than you could spending that money on fun-boys and rage powder.

You can always get the ESX later and sync the two (and shit gets really fun when you do that).
